DOT deemed me Out of Service

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, what a day. I left the house at 6:00 am with a load of 5 crushed cars on my GN. I was about 115 miles from home, and low and behold a temp sign, "ALL TRUCKS MUST EXIT" well here it goes I told my wife. So we go through the Rest area slow, and I get motioned by one of 9 Motor Carrier enforcment officers to stop. When I did, he looked under my truck, and about the same time he saw, I smelled a huge diesel fuel leak.

I pulled into a slot, and he gave me a Level 2 inspection. 1 warning for an inop marker light on the trailer-but since the trailer is about 10 days old, he laughed and told me to get her fixed, and an OOS for my fuel leak. Other than that, he said my tiedowns, mesh netting, etc looked good.

I called my step-father and about 1 and half hours later he shows up with tools, I pulled the copper washer from the head of the pump(in the middle of the injector lines) and we started all over looking for a new one. Ended at a Cummins shop, and they pointed me to a Bosch dealer who had a match. So finally at 3:45pm today I get her replaced, and by that time the shredder was closed so I turned back around and headed home.

1 tank of diesel fuel wasted
8:30am to 3:45pm wasted
no payday
Watching a state police officer go off on a guy for going the wrong way on the truck side of the rest area...priceless. yes, he was going Northbound, up the truck portion of the southbound rest area. He also wasnt from the state-who gave this man a license???

Although not reqd, he told me its "good to get a DOT #" But the other guy said, dont worry about it-so Im not

Was that in MD? You'd have most likely gotten broken knee caps at the least for leaking diesel, if not a straight up Taser-thon right there in the parking lot.

No im not over 26k. He did check my regs and then checked my trailer vin plate, checked tires, etc But I scale every trip, and I know all axle weights were fine. He also check for my medical card, fire extinguisher and triangles.

He was a decent person, and didnt give me a hard time. He said, actually if I didnt have that fuel leak, he would have let me go. I am pretty happy that I was stopped hindsight, because it could have turned ugly pretty quickly with a 1200* Turbo and a thin spray of diesel fuel.
