do Electric brake controlers go bad
do Electric brake controlers go bad
I have a problem with my lights. I tested my rv plug on the back of my truck and I could not get any power from the tail light terminal. I installed a new rv plug on both the truck and trailer. The problem remained so I figured I would plug in the trailer to make sure. The lights on the trailer worked but with a tester the terminal still has no power. I went on to test the blinkers, they worked just fine with both the tester and on the trailer but my electric brake controller light was blinking real faintly. When I put my foot on the brake the tester then showed power to both the e brake and the tail light terminals. When connected to the trailer I could not test if the brake was actually working but but with my foot on the brake and the turn signals on the light on the e brake controller would flash from bright to dim. Also when I just squeeze the e brake lever the light on the control did not light up. I first thought it to be a bad ground but I am wondering if there might be something going on inside the e brake controller. When testing the rv plug I am grounding to the ground terminal in the rv plug. I unplugged the harness to the plug and there was no corrosion there and It is a new plug. Any help will be appreciated. By the way with and without the trailer connected all the lights on the truck work fine.
Are you using the factory connector to hook in the break controler? If so I had one of the pins lose on the ground. Also check your ground pin on your trucks plug, for continuity a bare metal part of the frame. If it audible, shake the wires ging to the truck's plug and see if you hear a sound change. The wires could exposed or corded further back.

They can go bad, my Jordan did. But be sure the ground and the fuses are OK before getting a new one.
Do your trailer brakes work? That is the main power draw through the controller and it's fuse must be good for them to work.
