Diesel generators
Diesel generators
Seeing the recent thread about Kipor generators caused me to ask this question - How many of you use a diesel generator and what brand/size do you use?
I'm looking for one to run a travel trailer and for emergency use at the house but prefer to stay with a diesel so that I don't have to carry gasoline in addition to diesel. Fuel efficiency is also a consideration.
Let me hear what you use.

My Dad and I each built our own out of five horse Kubota Diesels and Grainger generators. They put out about 2,250 watts. Diesel is the way to go because they are economical and can sit for a very long time and still run fine. Gasoline generators must be run on a maintenance schedule or they won't when you need them. I previously built a 12 volt one for my boat with the same engine. It would put out about 105 amps at 14 volts and it let me leave the main engine off when charging bats.

I suppose since you read the previous post I have a Kipor KDE3500 it has been great so far. It ran 28 hours on 4gal of diesel. It is rated at 3300 cont and 3800 surge. It is not as quiet as a small gas like a honda but then again I only have to have one fuel type and whem I leave from home I take some farm diesel with me to run it on saves a little.
