Can I tow this?
Can I tow this?
I have a 40' Raptor 5th wheel, loaded weight of 15.5k and a pin weight of about 2900lbs. Looking at buying a 3500 Mega. Payload is 2,770lbs. Am I going to overload the rear axle? I am using a '04 F250 right now and tow with no problems. It has a payload of 2,900lbs. Am I going to have to go with another Ford to get the payload?
Thanks for any help.....
Thanks for any help.....
Just bought an 08 3500 Dually QC CTD Auto.
Laramie with Tow Package.(4.10)
Rear GAWR 9350.
Actual weight (With full tank) 3320
Load capacity (Of Rear) 6030
In looking I found that the dually has less capacity than the SRW.
The reason that I chose the QC over the Mega was
1. Shorter Bed (Mega)
2. Better carrying capacity.
DC says pulling is 16,000+
Hope this helps.

HHmmmm.....only way I could get the GAWR 9350 is on a reg cab truck. The quad and mega cab trucks have the 6200 axle. The towing capacity of the mega is still over 16k.
As long as the tires are load range "E", only problem I see is the rear may really sag. I have air bags on my F250 to stop this. Might have to use them again, maybe Timbrens.

Don't know if you were thinking about a SRW or a DRW but I have a DRW Mega 3500 and my last weight slip was 27,680lbs- 4900lbs steer axle,8280lbs drive axle, and 14,500lbs trailer axles. Empty my truck is about 8200 lbs so I was almost 20,000lbs trailer and load and with 75lbs in my firestone air bags my overload springs were just touching. I towed the load up and over the mountains without any problems. Even with a SRW and airbags you'll be fine. Also I picked up that same machine (small dozer 12,500lbs) before I had airbags and it wasn't bad at all had a little sag but mostly it was just a lot rougher ride. If you don't need the bed you're gonna love the Mega!!!!!!!!
You might have to go with the Mega Dualie, the long cab on the mega hurts its payload amount. I'm towing a 12,400 lb 5er with a pin weight of just under 2000 and 35 psi of air in the bags. It works nice but I wouldn't want to get much heaver. I have a 2500 but the only difference is a extra spring in the 3500.

You can tow it but you will be over wieght. That F250 is also. The numbers may work out empty but once you have a full tank of fuel wife, kids, dog, luggage, tool box, etc loaded up you are overloaded. Dont get me wrong I tow my 35' with my 95 as much as the 3500 SRW. I only worry about the tires and legality. My E rates are only good for 3400 lbs each. real easy to go over on them but the truck does just fine with a decent brake controller.
