Been thinking about going the breaker route for protection of the brake controller (Prodigy) verses the 30 amp fuse. Do you use some type of solid link to replace the fuse when using the breaker or do you go to a higher amp fuse? Can I just install the breaker in the cab by splicing into the prodigy wiring harness? fyi My truck has the tow package but I went ahead and purchased the Tekonsha wire harness.

 

It should be a 40amp fuse already installed. I've been towing with since I bought it and have not blown a fuse yet. Why waste your time putting in a breaker If you haveing that sort of problem then fix it because the breaker will just keep opening and you still won't have any trailer breaks

 

Remember also that thermal type breakers do not react as quickly as fuses - that can be good or bad. See the spec sheets as to the overload current and time to trip.
Bottom line is as SuperG says - fix the problem if you have one. You don't want to have to be reaching down to hit the reset while going down a hill looking for the runaway lane.

 

Been locking for a spare stock 40 amp trailer fuse. Is this a dealer item only? Like to have one for the upcoming trip. Installed guages this weekend in the cubby. Great fit and easy to read. Pedal to the floor pyro 1050, boost 24 and trans maxed at 160 unloaded. Is it true you can't pump your own diesel in Oregon? Like to always top my tank. No vent mod yet so it takes time as you guys know.

 

Depends on where you go. If you go thru the Big Rig islands then yes you can, if you go to Flying J and use the RV island then yes you can. Most RV capable places will let yo pump your own fuel, however I never top off other than maybe 2 or 3 clicks past full because I run the pump on S L O O O O O O W and also fill up my 2 5gallon cans between fillin the tank. This allows the foam to go down.
