Braking

Not sure if this applies here but need some help anyway.
While pulling my 5 th wheel camper, while braking it either brakes to hard on the trailer or not enough.. I've adjusted it while braking and I can't find the happy medium

Any advice ?

The newer trucks like my 2011 with the integrated controllers are not very good at best, when passing through a town I have one hand on the manual lever after a few narrow misses, also if you only have it set for say 5 and you use the manual lever the MAX you will get is only 5, I dial mine all the way and deal with what comes. My son's 2013 he tells me the controller is much better than the 2011 he had but to be honest nothing compares to a directly proportional controller like the old maxbrake. Oh have you checked the adjustment of the trailer brakes?

Kelsey 81740B control. Hydraulic drives a variable resistor.

Directly drives 1 or 2 axles, third is driven by a slave amplifier.

Works perfectly, and easy to mod, ie hold off to back an empty boat trailer, or manually operate if needed.

This would depend on what controller you have, if its working right, and whether or not you have some maintenance issues with the trailer brake system. Meaning, if there's any loose wire connections on the trailer or bad brake magnets or drums contaminated from over greasing EZ lube axles, etc.....then the trailer brakes may not work so good or intermittent or at all. And some brake controllers are just terrible too, or not rated for the number of axles under the trailer.
