Best brake controler for my app.

I have been doing some research on brake controlers and keep getting mixed opinions on the ones out here. I am looking for the best contoller for my application.

I tow a 18" enclosed V nose dual axle trailer. Completely loaded with the tools and toys it weights about 12K max. (thats on the scales)

Thanks in advance

I just finished my own research on the same issue. I purchased the Tekonsha Prodigy unit based on user feedback from this forum. Lots of folks here that were very happy with it and no problems with various types of loads. It has a lot of nice features worth considering. Mine cost about $120 plus shipping.

Another vote for the Tekonsha Prodigy. I have 2 of them and love them. Their customer service is also top notch.

I think the Prodigy is the best bang for your buck - it's not cheap, but it's sure worth it. I love how well mine works in different situations.

You're gonna love it!

I went from a Voyager in my old truck to a Prodigy in the new one.

The Prodigy is much smoother, got it for $99.00 at etrailer.com

After using a Brakesmart, to me it is worth the extra cost, but I tow in some sketchy, loose and steep places. Everyone who has a Jordan also seems to be happy.

That said, when a buddy wanted a less expensive, no extra steps to install controller, I recommended the Prodigy, which he bought and is very happy with.

My opinion is if you're going to spend around $100 you might as well spend another $20 and get a jordan.

Another prodigy vote. Moved it from my f150 to the 3500.

The 'boost' feature helps out with the load range of the flatbed; from empty & no boost, to 8k & full boost.

Not having any angle adjustments is what sold me on it....no setup; just plug it in & go!

HTH

I might be the first to say it but I do not like my jordan.
I have spoken with Jordan and rechecked the wiring 4 times and till anything over 00.7 will lock my brakes up.

I think I may ditch it and go with a prodigy. I know that will be my next controller anyway, whenever that may be.

1. Brakesmart

2. Jordan Ultima 2020

Both of these are truly proportional controllers that are linked to the truck's braking system. The Prodigy is an inertial controller and is not directly linked to the truck's brakes.

Oh, and wap, it sounds like your hookup has a wiring problem. There's no way that an output of 0.07 amps can lock up electric trailer brakes. Rather, it sounds like your brake light output in your harness is getting to the blue (trailer brake) wire - check to see if the trailer brakes aren't locking up when the truck's brake lights come on. The Jordan doesn't use the brake light wire in the 4-wire pigtail; it should be folded back and taped off.

On my 2002, both the factory pigtail and the Jordan Ultima 2020 had the wires labeled as to function. They do not match up color-to-color, but when matched according to function, I had no problems whatsoever. So, do your trailer brakes lock up when the truck's brake lights come on? The problem could be in the truck's or trailer's plug or wiring harness as well.

1. BrakeSmart

2. Jordan

3. Prodigy

I have the Prodigy and it works well for me, but If I ever buy another I'm going to spend the money and get the BrakeSmart.

Yeah, that's how I'd pick the top 3, too.
