Axle weights with gooseneck ball behind rear axle

This past weekend I pulled my 36ft race trailer for the first time with my '06 mega cab DRW. This is a full width trailer so clearance is an issue with a short box. Because of this, I had my ball installed behind the rear axle. It is about 4" back of centerline and the channel iron for the hitch is sitting right against the cross brace on the bed. (if you look at your truck, you can see what I mean)

I also use a hitch extender from PupUp on my trailer. With this setup, I have enought clearance to get this trailer where I need to.

I weighed the truck this weekend on the way back from the race and these were my numbers:

Steer Axle: 4480lbs
Drive Axle: 5900lbs
Trailer Axle: 9440lbs
Gross Weight: 19820lbs

So with coolers full and people in the cab, the rig is over 20k.

I went today and weighed the truck empty on the same scale and these are the numbers:

Steer Axle: 4480lbs
Drive Axle: 3520lbs
Trailer Axle: -----
Gross Weight: 8000lbs

I learned a couple of things. I learned that my trailer weighs nearly 12k when loaded and my truck weighs an even 8k. I also learned that having the weight of the trailer on my goosneck hitch that is mounted behind the rear axle took NO weight off of the steering axle of the truck.

I thought these might be interesting numbers for those of you that are wanting to pull your 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers with your mega cab trucks.

BTW....I was very surprised that the steering axle weighs so much. The cummins is one hell of a hunk of iron.

Your MegaMonster GVW

MX,

I am glad someone finally has published some GVW numbers for the dually MegaMonster. I have been making a point on several boards since the MegaCab dually was first introduced. I am not being critical of the truck but to DG for rating that truck at only 10.5k GVW. Your truck is just as capable of hauling 12.5k as my truck is.... But DG rated it at 10.5k GVW. If you look at your numbers you are only 150#s from being over your truck GVW and still way under on the GCVW rating. In states that that matters it could be a big deal. DG should have rated that truck the same as the QC dually.
