Awning replacement/repair?
Well last week we got a pretty nasty hail storm, not very common for this area to have golf ball sized hail! I checked the camper the next day, found a few holes punched in the a/c cover, no big deal, but the awning took a beating. It was just starting to peel a bit at one corner, trailer is an 02 and I'm sure the awning is original to it. So come to find out it's not covered in my insurance policy, but I would like to fix the awning. Any reccomendations for either changing or repairing it? Just the outer vinyl got damaged, only at the top near the retractor. I have a whole bunch of basically the same material (a little thicker) from an old "portable" garage I had. I just don't know if it could be adhered to the old awning safely. Thanks for any help!

Doubt if replacing just a section would do it. At 10 years old it was due to be replaced anyway. Search on the net for replacement awning fabric and order a new canvas. Have a friend or 2 with you when you are ready to re-install it to the rig.

I wasn't going to "replace" a section, more or less glue a chunk on top of the damaged area, maybe a 1 foot strip.
I was also getting MUCH higher prices from RV dealers around here, triple the price on ebay. Maybe I'll try not to hack it up too bad, bite the bullet and buy a new one. What can I say I'm cheap (and sorta broke sometimes!)

My awning went through a hail storm this spring as well. I found awning tape or vinal repair tape online, something like 300' for <$10. It was 4" wide. Two passes over top of the damaged awning and it should last for a few more years. Yes ~250 or so for the replacement fabric.

I never knew they made such a thing. I just ordered a few rolls, will get me through my last trip end of the month. No holes all the way through, just the outter layer of vinyl is peeling, and only at the top. Rest is like new. Thank you!
Next year I'll swap out the whole thing, as we're probably gonna spend over a grand this month just on our next trip with fuel being up around $4.

2 replace or not
Go on line and look at PPL out of Houston. www.ppl.com
The price goes up with the length. They have specials all the time.
We had a awning that was on our 2000 Toy Hauler and was tearing away at the retaining channel. Also had many pin holes as well as small tears.
We payed $153.00 (18 FT.) And Free shipping!!. Plus we were able to drive the Goverment crazy, we bought on line and NO TAXES !!
My son replaced it in about 4 hours. The hardest thing was keeping the rubber/plastic retainer that keeps the fabric in the channel next to the unit, from breaking and then had a little hard time installing it in the new awning.
It wasen't that hard. Plus it is new and it LOOKS GOOD.
Good Luck.

Go here, Sailrite and buy your own awning material. My wife and I did it by ourselves. Cut, sew and install. It is not hard to do.
