Anyone from Alberta for a newbie pulling trailers from Indiana

I have a different rig to bumper pull but I would like to know from the expert people pulling.
Which company is the best out there?
The good and the bad about the job.
Will I recuperate my money by doing it with an Motorhome ?

Please help

Thanks

If you are talking about bringing up RV's for sale, talk to Scotty. He's from Saskabush, but he did that for quite some time.

entirely depends on fuel consumption I'd say. you just have to start running the math on it. extra fuel used Vs motels every night.

What are they offering per mile if you get 8 with the motor home add on a camper will more then likely drop you down to we'll say 5-6mpg, at 1000 miles figure fuel at 3.25 a gallon it will cost you right at $650. in fuel alone, that workes out to $.65 cpm not counting tolls or permits, insurance, maintance on your motorhome, yes you would save on motels but can you save enough? And don't for get you run back on your dime they do not pay for return trip.

The two companies I worked for still owe me several $.
Bitter? Yes. Smarter? Yes.
Would I suggest doing it with your rig. NO!

I admire your idea and understand your line of thinking. However, what you know and can offer will rarely be appreciated in the RV hauling world.

I responded to your other thread as well. Sounds like a cool approach but the RV transport companies' do not care about you and your livelihood as all they want is their percentage. There was a time when it made sense/cents. Not no more.

My guess is you would do better with the dodge truck. you can find motels pretty cheap.

Dont need a motel. Cut the rear doors out and sleep in the truck. Mine has a 78x30 bed in it. Log off duty.

The rates arent too bad. 1.35-1.40 for canada.

This trip to vancouver pays me 3100.00 for 2225 miles. Will have around 1100-1150 in fuel round trip. My truck nets around 2000 most every week. Can turn em every 7-8 days. On prolly the 8-9th trip in 3 mos to vancouver.

Dont know of any companies hiring motorhomes. Just trucks.

Here is who I work for http://www.indianatransport.com/ and they do hire canadian based drivers from all the provinces. I bet they pay you guys a bit more than us US based guys. Really could care a less, so Ive never asked.

I make 1000 take home at a minimum every week. Drive about 150k a year. Been driving my whole life. $50k a year is avg for a truck driver. Yes I drive more miles here, but the stress is far less so its worth it.

At this point will haul rvs forever. On my 3rd year now.

If you call my company, ask for Phil. Tell him Carey sent ya. He knows me well.

This was back when I first started. I built my own fuel tank and tail box. Didnt want to make a big investement till I seen if I liked it. Since, I now have an aluminum tank that looks the same, but is dot approved. Still using the tool box. Its super strong. I set 5ers on it all the time to readjust the landing gear so I can get the trailer high enough to get it on my truck.

After hitting my first deer, I made this. Now they bounce off. It weighs about 450lbs and works great as a counter weight for heavy trailers.

And for some more info. Our company is young and lean. They specialize in hiring only pro drivers, and especially ex truckers. Our main lane is west and west coast, both canada and the US. Our drivers need to know when to recognize bad weather and when its time to get the rig off of the road.

We do deliver to all points, but the factories we pull for target the west as there territory.

Its a fun place to work since they try and hire professional type drivers. Guys dont work at our company part time. They send em packin. They tend to search out guys who actually enjoy doing this for a living.

Its ran by one of the oldest rv hauling families in Elkhart. Its owned by a dad, uncle, son, and bro in law. There family bleeds over to us. No games are played here.

also, since we have some large investors we never have money problems. 50% up front, 50% when they recieve paper. Utmost importantce is drivers pay. No forced dipatch. I work about 3-4 weeks out and take a week to 10 days off. I work where I like, and thats Northwest. Love it. Plenty of work and run year round. I love snow and nasty storms. Makes for challenging driving. After 21 years in a semi, doing this is far more challenging when the cold wind blows. Rv's hate wind and slick roads. I love it. Makes my blood pump dealing with the snow and wind. Still a guy has to know when its time to get off of the road.

We have about 200 trucks. We could use 200 more. We have all of the factories wanting to do biz with us. Right now we can only handle 2-3. Have about 2-3 more wanting us to haul there rv's.. If you are a laid off trucker like I was and with a dodge cummins. This company can help you recover and keep you going.

Yes with the help of this forum and a few others I keep the old dodge repaired and always ready to meke me some coin.

Anyway good luck bud, and if I can help you I will. Sleep is a calling and you guys are prolly sick of me by now, lol

Actually, I've really enjoyed reading your many posts on this subject! (and I have no interest in pulling RV's for hobby or living - but do know some folks who used to do that in better RV times) Probably enjoyed this post more than most posts on here, since so many are written by well-meaning people who don't know nearly as much as they'd like - you sound like you really know what's going on, and that's refreshing! Travel safe out there, and maybe we'll see you somewhere...(BTW - VERY clever what you did to rear seat to sleep there - and, everyone I know who's done this to make money slept on the floor of the RV on plastic not using any creature comfort, or splurged once in awhile getting a cheap hotel - but don't know anyone else who did what you did to their truck!)

Well I guess when I saw your note I see a different aspect of the gig
I just send an email to Phil with picture of my rig and see if he has any needs for someone like me but when I read the first email from Scotty from saskatchewan that got scammed by 2 companies by not getting paid I was really apprehensive to start this

I only have 34000 km on my supernova and the unit is made to pull not sit at home for sunny days to go camping.
I have 2 tanks each 70 gallons .
I would like to try it out and see but if it is not what it appears to be I will be out

Thanks again
