'92 250 Wiring

Hi All,

I recently bought a new to me '92 250 and was wiring in 7pin round connector to so I can tow my trailer. The PO had a 6 and 4 pin wired in and so I just spliced off it of and wired in my connector and brake controller.

The marking lights, brake, emergency flashers and turn signals all now work but the problem is the L&R turn are very dim. Strangely enough the brakes and emergency flashers put out a bright light but I can't seem to get the turn signals to flash brightly. I ended up rewiring the entire circuits into the OEM wiring and still nothing changes. Even the turn indicators on the dash flash weaker. I know the trailer wiring is good.

Anyone have a clue or suggestion? If the emergency flashers were dim I'd think it's something with the wiring but I'm wondering if something else is going on here.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

John

Try replacing the flasher in the cab of your truck with a heavy duty unit. I'm not sure on the Dodge but on my ferd I had 2 flashers, one for turn lights and the other for the 4 way's.

Sounds like a bad ground could be the culprit

Remember that on the 7 pin that the center pin is for the back up lights if I remember correctly. When you have "weak" lights and the turn sig and brake lights cause all lights to work etc. usually are caused by a poor ground. Check the trailer ground and also check the ground wire on the truck from the plug/connecter. Easiest way is to find the hot wire then use your tester to the groud pin and see if it wavers or acts strange. If in doubt just reconnect to a new spot using a clean good ground area with all paint/rust removed.

Hope this helps....

Thanks guys. I rewired the ground and all the wires to the dodge wiring. As the emergency flashers work well I'm lean towards the turn signal relay as after some parts searching it appears they're are two relays, one for hazzards and one for turn signals.

Thanks again!!!
