TC is toast do I need a triple disk
Towing my fiver passing a bowtie on a hill last week I did not wait till the TC locked before I pushed on the skinny petal and got a shudder . So now at 276000 km I think its time to replace the stock TC. Now what to buy a tsc single for $1012.00 or a triple disk for 100 more and local shipping. I thought I would buy the cheaper single but can`t find one local. Do I need a triple disk Torque converter ???
Truck with the fiver attached is 16000 lbs

Hi there! I'm probably looking for a TC for my ride as well. Just curious to know who you were thinking of buying your TC from and why that seller over any others that you may have checked out.
Thanks

Installed a Triple in July 2010. Had to look that up. Its a TFI. Build in Deland Florida. It runs 15 degrees cooler than the stock on and when it locks up in normal driving its smooth and quick.
When running in the tow haul mode it is necessary to get of the go pedal and allow it to shift into OD/lock up and get back in it. Like driving a stick almost. If you don't the extra pressure in the tow haul mode will slam that thing shut
and rattle everything in the truck. Not good for the tranny either. So I run it up to 55 mph in 3rd and back off the fuel pedal when towing the fiver.
Once at tow speed (63-65) I kick in the juice on the tow position. After that it don't slow down for nothing. EGT's stay in 9's- to 11's. Hope to see just want it will do in the near future in the hills and mountains of TN. GA, Va, MD, and Penn.

if you do not have a billet input shaft do NOT put in a triple disk. you chance breaking the input during a hard lock up.
a good single disk converter will be plenty and way better then stock

I think a single should cost less than a triple ?, but that is not what I`am finding. I can get a single for 1012 or a triple for 1150 .I think diesel parts are a big rip off on price because of a friend who rebuilds trans and says that the parts to rebuild a TC would come to a little over $250.00 . so why would I get a price of $1012 for a single disk ? The single stock disk in my 95 has gone for 276000 km now , so I don`t think I need a triple and break more gear by some error. I will have to look and find a single for a better price. Thanks Don

Call Dave at Goerends or go to http://www.goerend.com/ He will not steer you wrong. Last i knew he was selling single for 650.00 and triples for 1150.00 but the triple is Lifetime warranty.
As for not going triple without a billet input shaft,, thats not correct, I have triples in both my trucks with stock inputs,, Dave will say IF you tow heavy then yes do billet, but I tow 15,000 with my 2500 and it holds great and hasnt broke anything. Like i said,, call Dave and talk to him personally, His service is awesome and he takes care of everyone he sells to

well my Tc worries are over , I have a TCS single billet Tc coming in the mail now, with 3 years coverage to 500 hp and 1000 torque. I think that towing TC will be all I need for towing my fiver at a weight of 16000 lbs for truck and fiver loaded for camping. I can`t wait to take my cross Canada trip. I`am having the trans flushed and new fluid installed even thought it was just done 7 km ago. Just in case the old TC left some clutch material behind. Next will be some kind of Jake brake. Thanks for the help . later Don

I got my new single billet TC installed today . What a difference over the stock TC, its like day and night . I will be taking the fiver out Thursday and will know more after that trip. I think water meth and a exhaust brake will be my next mods. The truck seems way faster taking off now. 1600 stall is now what its set up for. I think I`am gona love the new TC . Later Don

I took my truck to a local shop to have the TC replaced,it took him 6.5 hrs alone to change it. I wish I had replace the stock TC a long time ago. The 1600 rpm stall makes a huge difference towing. NO more does it hang in the lower gears, It know shifts great and the truck pulls faster starting off.I did not replace the Valve body because the truck works so nice and the PO had adjusted it for more pressure .No more slipping and reeving and poor performance with my truck. I am very happy now.
