Great info guys, I appreciate it. I have a bad problem, i just have the desire to put a 8.3 coupled to a 9 or 10speed eaton transmission and swap it into a 1st gen. I was thinking about using a 3rd gen front axle and possibly rear axle aswell seeing that the axle weight capacities are higher then a dana 60.

If I were to do this, I think it would be better to cut and stretch the frame atleast 8inches to allow more space under the hood to fit the longer and heavier engine. Its 4inches longer then a 5.9 but the extra 4 would help set more weight to the rear. Only problem with this is the fenders and hood need to me stretched. Could have a fiberglass mold made, cut, stretched, remolded and make a finall piece. When I hit the lotto

Just remember that it would take a 900 series or larger to hold the 8.3. The 600 series is borderline for the 5.9. See that is 600 foot pounds of torque and the 9513 would be 950 foot pounds of torque by design. The transmission and rear are sized by the engine not the truck.

BTW, 900 series transmission, do you have any experience driving anything with a tranny like that? IS it a slow shifter? A syncro transmission would probably be mandatory.

Many many miles and years, including over 1 mil on one cornbinder. For race and speed this is not for you, for pulling it is a very good deal. Generally syncros are a bandaid for those who don't know how to drive without them, they get in the way if you do.
