I've hauled my 44' gooseneck RV/toy hauler (lower roof profile than the 5th wheel) w/no problems. Have a Superchip (tow mode only), plus a PRXB PAc brake (which I love and use all the time), dual 4" exhaust. My 3500 has hauled my 15,000# fire truck from NJ to Florida on my 6,000# trailer - no problems.
My 44' transfers 33% (not 20%) - I guess it matters how your axles are placed (distance from drive axle on the truck), so that is dropping about 4,950# on my rear axle, which about max's it's rating out. That is why for the heavier loads I upgraded to the FL70.

P.J. Looks like a nice camper. I would consider it if I did not have a trailer I have to trade-in or sell. Having 2 small kids makes dealing with selling out right is too time consuming. Our past 2 campers have been used and my wife is stuck on something new this time.....even though yours looks almost new. It yours a discontinued floor plan? I could not find it on their site. Thanks.

I hear you on the trade in thing.....
They still make these (2003-present), I think they offer a QBH now though. If you type in "Colorado 28BH" in a google search, the first 4 that come up don't have the bedroom slide that I have and are anywhere from $4-6 K more than I would take. This is essentially the same unit, (mine is 1 foot shorter and the sink is next to the shower rather than next to the toilet.room.http://www.crestviewrv.com/src/rv.as...ls/mod5801.jpg
Thing is, these things are worse than cars, boats, planes, etc. They lose about 50% of their value in the first 4.5-5 years. Mine probably cost about $26,000 new (MSRP of $33,000). I saved SOME of the beating I would have taken if I had it new.
I'll tell you the truth, this thing even SMELLS new inside. No pets, no smoking.
You could probably save around $10K off of new..........

Ouch, no problems until you have to explain it in court or something, right?

I'm all about going big, but that sounds a little over the top!

I haul a 32 ft Sandpiper sport 5th wheel, 12,000 lbs loaded for Glamis, Gas Full, Water Full. Depending how it's loaded pin weight is 2400/2600 lbs.Total gross at scales average 20,500 lbs. truck is legally maxed because of tounge weight. Trailer hauls great. Can't help thinking what the pin weights are on the 40 footers.

Prolly about the max for a DRW, somewhere around 4K.
