is this 5th wheel hitch any good?
 

I got an offer to buy one of these at a reasonable cost.. are they much better than a B&W?

I have used the B&W but never the Trailersaver.

I don't know about the hitch but I can tell from the photo that the rails look like they are bolted into the truck and unlike the B&W companion hitch that hitch will not give you a clean bed once the hitch is removed., it also looks heavier that the companion so more work taking it in and out of the truck.

It mounts into the picture frame. No rails needed in new ram.

Heavy means real thick steel (good) and my cherry picker picks it right up and out of the truck bed. Very similar to installing and removing my oil tanks.

I haven't owned one myself, but I believe that is one of those hitches with airbag suspension. Supposed to ride smoother. You see the type on semi conversions.

If you can get it for a good deal and it works then I'd buy it. Those air ride hitches are usually EXPENSIVE. :thumbsup:

looks heavy.. if you plan on leaving it the truck, fine... but in my case, I remove it, and it's a burden carrying all the weight around..

I just have a regular hitch on a slider base and I rigged up a hoist in my barn to lift it out. Too heavy for just me unless I take all the pieces off. Even then its freaking heavy. [laugh]

I have a regular Husky Hitch and a Curt adapter that connects it into the B&W gooseneck ball socket in the bed. Love it by the way. Lift it out and I have a completely clean bed. I got a Harbor Freight ceiling hoist. I slipped a long 1-1/2 conduit pipe tossed u[ onto the rafters then the hoist is slip onto that. Just hit the button and it lifts it right out. Then I have a dolly reclaimed from a dead power washer modified a bit to set it down on and roll it anywhere as needed.

On the 99 and 04 I could was dirt and acorns out from under the rails 12 times a day and there will still be some left.

I went ahead and made a deal and got the Hensley TrailerSaver 22K hitch and cover for 1K. It weighs about 250 lbs and is as solid a rock.

I am planning on making an extension for the release handle and pin release and lube her up, for use. Picks right up with my engine hoist.

I believe it is designed to save your 5er IF it slides from the pin locked position .
It will NOT fall onto the bed rails and damage BOTH the trailer and bed side rails.
A good feature IF you move the trailer and the pin is not fully locked.
I have seen this happen in my travels...........

YOU MADE A GOOD PURCHASE

I made a lift plate and fashioned a handle out of a piece of 1.5 X1.5 X .125 tubing. Welded an eye on the end to catch the release pin. Dual purpose tool, can lose both at the same time now.

I also had to get a new shoulder bolt (size 1/2X1/2) for the release handle, because the previous owner did not know what allen wrenches were. Holland Binkley TS wanted $14 got 1 local for 3.00, exact same bolt.

When putting back together I noticed slop in the handle up/down movement on the shoulder when new bolt installed so I placed a .100 steel spacer (needs .500 center hole) under the release handle and it is smooth as butter and no slop now and very firm pull.
