1st Gen Towing

I am wondering if towing 5 ton with a short 23' gooseneck would cause any problem for the truck in my sig.

How much weight are you going to be total? Lots of stuff in determining that, tire rating, condition of the truck (i.e. good shape vs. rusty heap). I towed roughly 7000lbs with mine and had no issues. However, I tow 10-12,000#'s with my third gen and I feel it, I'm pretty sure a 1st gen would feel it even more. I'm am sure that weight also puts it over its tow capacity. Whether you want to exceed that and go just by tire and axle ratings is up to you.

Well the mini excavator is about 10500 and the trailer is about 2000 so 12500 total truck is in great shape the body is rusty but frame is clean and suspension is well kept. Tires are rated for 3350ibs at max psi so no problem there because all weight is on the trailer.

You'll need about a ton on the ball for it to handle safely. Should be OK if your suspension is up to it.
It's really a job for a 350 though. I don't like to tow high weights on single drive tires. Control during loss of a tire is a big concern, especially if yer putting a lot of miles on it. With duals, you have an "active" spare.

ok thanks I am not going far only about 60 miles round trip. Only thing I was worried about was really moving the load without to much stress on my truck. I figured the rag could handle it just didn't want to get out on the highway and break something.

I hauled this quite often without any problems when my truck was a SRW, tractor weight is 13,500lb plus the trailer and golf cart.

the trailer has good breaks.
