14k gvw tag

Just got a 14K GVWR TAG. It is a 22' PJ Trailer deckover model F8222. When I ordered the trailer the dealer selling it recommended staying away from the gooseneck saying that on this trailer that the gooseneck was made w/ an 8" I-beam (just like what is under the flatdeck) and that it was not stout enough, so I ordered the tag.

I am having a little remorse now, thinking that the gooseneck would have been better. Most of the time the trailer will only be at 10K or less. However, I'm not sure that I will like it much when I do take it up to 14K.

Comments on gooseneck vs. TAG?

I'm not sure why the dealer would have recommended against a gooseneck......a goose will ride better and be far easier to maneuver around than a bumper-pull or tag.
The only reason can see for a tag is if you're towing with a dump truck or something similar and can't use a gooseneck.

...or you like to keep your bed available for other stuff you need to bring along.

drag a loaded tag and then the same load with a gn, You will figure out how to load the bed where the gn doesnt hit stuff.

Sounds like the dealer needed to sell a bumper pull. I switched to a GN and will never go back.

This is also just about the only explanation I could think of as well.

I am considering changing even my open car trailer to GN........[laugh]

Another benefit to a GN........cuts down on the number of folks that want to borrow your trailer!

A pintle hitch accomplishes this as well [laugh]

In the size trailer you got... I would have definatly gone GN for many of the reasons already listed. Not to mention, with the tag, you will need to use a weight distributing hitch to stay within the rated capacities of the receiver hitch.

I agree with the statement that the dealer need to move a tag trailer off the lot.
