10 second tow mirror fix...

For those experiencing problems with the DC flip-up towing mirrors on the '02 trucks slowly drifting out of adjustment, here's a quick fix!

With the mirror in the down position, rotate the glass as far inward as possible - there will be a pretty large gap between the adjustable part of the mirror and outer housing at the outer edge - in good sunlight, or with a small flashlight, you can look inside the assembly and easily see the ball/joint part of the assembly that the mirror rotates in. I used a product I used when playing raquette ball called "Pow'r Tac" in a 4 oz spray can - it sprays like paint, and holds a very sticky material in liquid suspension - it's for use on batting glove and similar to provide a much better grip after it dries for a few minutes - it stays tacky pretty much indefinitely - it's available at many sporting goods stores that carry tennis, baseball and raquette ball supplies.

ANYWAY, after placing paper or similar between the mirror assembly and the truck to protect from overspray, apply the tacky spray as much as possible to the portion of the inner ball assembly as possible (I took a spray head off a carb cleaner can that had a small tube attached), and while still wet, rotate the mirror to distribute the stuff to the insides of the ball/socket assembly, then return the mirror to the full inward position so the stuff will dry - after a bit, try the movement of the mirror, and apply more if needed to get the "feel" you prefer.

Mine works great!

Some alcohol on a rag will remove any overspray, the tacky stuff is clear, and won't harm plastic or paint...

Shucks, yer wife's hairspray might work too - and it's SURE lots easier that disassembling the mirror to tighten that derned internal mirror tension adjustment nut...
