Wiki
Ok, so I have got the Wiki running. My problem is that I don't know very well how to use it. This is my official call for volunteers who have a working knowledge of Wiki to help get this thing setup right.
What I want to do first is get all of the information from Tech Facts over to the Wiki and have it formatted somewhat decently and well organized. Anyone have the time and want to volunteer to do this? I would appreciate it!!! The Wiki is here... http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com |
Is our username and password the same? Or do we need to create a new one?
|
You'll have to create a new one. I'm working on integrating the two but it's not a small project.
|
Jack, not sure if my offering to help would be any good.. .I've never messed with one.
|
Do some reading! LOL [laugh]
I would be glad to have some help if you can working the formatting. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, you can view another wiki here: http://wiki.radioreference.com I'm not putting the link to our wiki on the main menu until we get it right, but hopefully that'll be soon. |
Jack, im teaching myself Wiki as we speak, I;ll start a simple how to over there and then maybe import a help wiki from another site

Cool deal. So far so good. Two articles down and about 10 million to go! [laugh]

I'll toss my name into the ring for assistance. Some things that should be high priority....
1.. Set permissions to where the pages cannot be changed by every swinging Tom, Dick and Harry. 2.. Ensure accessablity from the entire site. 3.. Don't blow it up too often. :D (Hey, I tend to code after work, which is also Bourbon time. [laugh] ) |

The whole premise of Wiki is community editing. While this is commendable for certain projects, it isn't something that some sites wish to happen. I've already looked into this for another site, and the permissions are originally set to be wide open (Jack, I apologize if you've already slammed the bolt home) when loaded.
One of the reasons I didn't adopt Wiki on another site I administer is due to the issues of open editing and the work it would have entailed on shutting that aspect of the site down. |
If I have a Sticky that got moved to a Wiki and I find an error or I wanted to add to it, is there a time limit that I can edit the post like when we make a regular post or can I edit anytime I want?
And does an Administrator have to check it before it will be a new post? Thanks. Jim |
