Thoughts on "whiners"...
Read something on another forum that got me thinking...
(Gets up on soapbox...)
Recent changes on this board stirred up significant points, counterpoints and conflicting opinions - sometimes with supporting rationale for those opinions. All that would seem normal and reasonable for so great a change...
What DID register as unnecessary (this being the well-mannered board that it is), was the occasional description of those opposing various changes as "whiners" or similar descriptive comments that were CLEARLY meant NOT to smooth the ripples, but rather to offend, irritate and jab at those whose opinions and desires differed from those of the writer.
Just because *I* disagree with something presented on this or any other forum, and comment on it, does NOT make me a whiner - and I resent being called by that name!
There's pretty much ALWAYS room for well-reasoned debate, and difference of opinion - but resorting to use of words like Whiner and similar demeaning names, to me, isn't much different than referring to me as a jerk, a slob or an idiot - and also usually points up the inability of the one making that statement as lacking the ability to accept reasonable opposition to his personal viewpoint and provide a logical and reasoned response.
There are a fair number of insulting/abusive names, words and tactics that need to be watched closely on this board - and as far as *I* am concerned, "whiner" is ONE of them!

I agree 100% with Gary on this one, Never any reason to insult anyone on this site.
No way 6000+ members, are going to see everything "eye to eye", Our diversity in our combined knowledge is what gives us our best attribute here at DTR. People helping people.
Ok now everybody quit whining and get back to posting really interesting and useful tidbits! ;D

The site rules are pretty clear on this.
Read through them and the rules spell out pretty clearly that attacks on other members are not tolerated.
Its these very rules that set DTR apart from other sites.
Now, as seen above, folks are always poking fun at one another and that fun is what makes the members here at DTR so close and such a good group of folks.
However, we all need to be careful how we come across in this medium.
If were just poking fun at someone, we need to make sure that is how it comes across.
(To that person and everyone else that will read the post.)
Even I have been guilty of reading a post incorrectly and thought that it was in violation of the site rules... only to find out it was all just a group of members having fun.
Just goes to show, we all need to be careful of what we say and how we say it.

Nobody has been blacklisted,,,,,,, cept maybe me after Jack reads my last post,,, : ,,,
Jack had said he had to do some work on the smilies, he probably hasn't had the time due to other more important issues,,,, but I'm sure we will get them back in time. So far, the only ones that don't work for me are the [eye crazy] and the one but the others seem to work.
