search function

I read the post about my search overloading the system and i should refine my search wordage, but "fuel pump issues" I think is pretty refined. I get this error message.....

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 50331648 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /opt/www/html/dev/search.php on line 1028

Way too broad for the following reason. All generations of these trucks have had fuel pump issues. That means the search engine is looking at all the entries on the forum. What specifically are you looking for and with which generation truck?

Go to the advanced search and pick one of the forums you want to look in. The search engine will look only in that forum, it might work then.

did that. used the "search this forum" tool in the upper right corner by the page count.

Also, I have noticed that if you do a search as "fuel pump issues", you will get hits from every post that contains any of those three words. This would definitely overload the server as 50% of the posts on this site probably contain one of those three words.

It seems to work better if you do the search as "fuel+pump+issues", as the plus sign will create hits only on posts that contain all three words.

Alternately, you could put the search phrase in quotation marks, and it would only create hits on posts that contain the whole phrase "fuel pump issues".

Probably the easiest way around this issue is in the advanced search window, use the "Google Search" to search our forum, that frees up the server ;)
