Profanity and the use of *@# symbols in posts.

We have again noticed an increase in the use of symbols such as #@% to replace letters in certain words that are not needed in our posts here at DTR.

The use of bad language is not necessary nor appreciated by a large majority of the members and Staff here at DTR. As adults we should be able to express ourselves intelligently without the frequent use of profanity in relating to each other.

By using such symbols or characters, it does not change the meaning of the word, and it bypasses the built in software that helps delete offensive language.

This is in effect a show of a lack of respect for your fellow members here at DTR. Please refrain from posting offensive material, so that we can all enjoy this site.

Thank You,
Lary

I agree, and thanks Larry. It really IS NOT necessary to use offensive language (or it's substitute) to express one's thoughts, and although I tend to ignore it for the most part, courtesy to others would dictate better behavior (language).

Being one of those mentioned above who does not appreciate such language, I fully agree with both Larry and Gramps...and I appreciate the efforts of those trying to enforce the site rules. Thanks.

I agree. Bad language tells me that the person using it is publicly admitting that they have a poor knowledge of the English language as that they do not have a sufficient vocabulary to express themselves.

....perhaps a short-term sticky in all forums for a quick reminder?

You guys cannot believe how hard it has been for me not to post on this with some kind of ...humor.

I think most of this is Gonzo's fault followed closely by Push Rod.
