porn links on site

Hey what's up with the porn ads???? I did a member search alphabetically to check out peoples home pages to see some diesels and the first 5 I clicked on were all porn links.
aadora
abased
abser
abaser
and abal need to be removed

Lary Ellis (Top) 07-22-2004 09:32 AM

Thanks for pointing that out, I went through and removed the offending links. Looks like I need to go through the entire list now[eyecrazy]

Rather than sit here and type each of these people an email telling them of their transgressions in breaking the rules, I will place them in "Mute" status.

If they wish to post again they can contact me to find out why they can't post here.

I appreciate your help Spunbearing, it really is up to all of us to help keep this place nice for everyone:)

Those are bots used specifically for that purpose. This happens sometimes to larger forums. Sorry for the inconvenience. We'll make sure we get rid of them immediately if they come up again. We will remove those users.

I guess that means we've hit the big time.
We're big enough for people to start paying attention to.

I wouldn't think bots could make it through the application for membership?
Guess they're getting smarter.

So "bots" are just programmers breaking into the membership area? These aren't actually people signing in? WHoa.. [eyecrazy]

Good work by the way Spun.. This is a family site!!;)

It just amazes me,,,,,,,,,,

If folks are this smart that they can come up with this junk,,, why don't they get a real life instead of trying to make others miserable?

We at DTR will ALWAYS do our best to keep this place enjoyable for everyone. Thanks spunbearing.

What if the person placing these links are unaware of what they are doing, there is spyware out there that can re-direct people all over the net and do some pretty strange things without you even knowing it, is it fare to remove the inoccent?

Why would anyone who's innocent be placing a link like that in their profile on our site? I'm not really sure what you're talking about. For those who have had these links put into their profile without them knowing, it might be a different story. I don't know if that's what you're talking about or not.

I think it might help to define what a "BOT" actually is. ;)

spunbearing 07-26-2004 09:58 AM

A bot is a program that runs code. It is true that someone can be infected by a trojan program or hijacker that will send out spam etc. on their account. This is a different situation. If you look at the names that dropped the links it is obvious that they were created specifically for that purpose. They started with A's and worked their way through.
