Did you know?

Every time I post my posts are readily available on the Yahoo search engine?

True; Every post I make is now property of Yahoo for purposes of their search engine!

Every time I give out my personal phone numbers, my address, or any other information to members of these forums it is Worldwide PUBLIC data via Yahoo!

No wonder I receive buckets full of SPAM, have telemarketers calling night and day, and have junk mail to boot!

Don't believe me? Just do a search on Yahoo for any of the forums that I have written.

My advice and or opinions are not free to anyone other than Deisel Truck Resource members! This is my home, as it is to so many others, and we all should be able to feel safe in our home!

Please explain.

Rick

Explain what? If you don't want your information on a search engine, then don't post it. I'm not sure I understand your point here. The reason that you have nearly 20,000 members to complain to is because of the search engines you're complaining about.

We WANT our posts and information to be in that search engine because it helps new members find us, thereby allowing us to gain more knowledge, and obtain more information. Anyone who posts their address or personal information that they don't want to have public... well, that's your issue.

PS - if you give out your personal information via pm, it is NOT available on yahoo. If you give it out over a page that is viewable by the public, then it of course would be seen on yahoo.

In addition, the reason you have spam is because you gave out your email address over a public forum in a public post!!! The whole purpose of the DTR hiding the email addresses of our members is to avoid that situation in the first place. Once you put it out there, you're done for and there is never a time where you can recover from that unless you have a good spam filter. Don't blame the DTR for that one.

In addition, you should NEVER give out your telephone number over the Internet unless you're running a business that requires you to do so. If you want someone to contact you, then send the information via pm. The search engines can't get to that information and they can't get to anything sent via email as well.

While I agree with you Runamuk, many of us have made this our home on the net... the important thing to remember is the "...on the net" part.
This is a public forum and everything you post has been and always will be, publicly viewable.
Jack has even incorporated a Google search button at the bottom of the pages when our previous hardware could not support the Search functionality.
This is one reason why us Moderators take our duties seriously. What the members post here at DTR is what makes DTR... each post further defines what we are.
To make sure that definition reflects back in good light, us Moderators (and Admins) try to keep out many of the things that would cast DTR in bad light and possible result in trouble for our members.
With that said, it is still the members responsibility to use discretion when posting. If you dont want the world to know something (like email addresses) then you should not be posting in it a public forum.

anyone can see your advice and opinions by visiting the site without registering anyways, a search engine is just one method of getting here. public domain, same with any forum, nothing you can do about it and not really a big deal.
