2007 Michigan State Police Vehicle Comparison
We are testing a magnum in our fleet now. Needed its first brake job at 3k miles, I'm sure some of that was the "testing" but it still seems to soon. The trunk is far to small. The rear seat is also far to small when you add the cage. far to little space to wrestle a guy in.
That said me and my partner did a little test of our own. He was in the magnum, I was driving the new 5108, an 07 CV with 13K miles. The magnum had 5k miles. From a dead stop the magnum walked all over me. When I hit 100 mph I would guess he was 1/4 mile ahead of me and he said in the 125 range.
The Caprice was faster than the CV, now the Magnum is. I'll still vote for the CV's as the best all around patrol vehicle. Roomy, very forgiving in the handling department, and quick enough to hang in there.

I'm not a big Ford fan but I did rent a Grand Marquis for a month several years ago and I fell in love with that car. The wife and I put over 3000 miles on it in a little over three weeks and it was a pleasure to drive. This one was loaded and had just over 700 miles on it when I picked it up (I know the lady that runs the rental counter). I actually hated to give it back at the end of the vacation. I would buy one if the opportunity was right for sure.
The charger shifts into gear too slowly. When in the roadway trying to make a turnaround on a violator, it's kind of scary sitting there waiting for the transmission to go into gear form R to P or from P to R. I'm not impressed with the trunk size and I couldn't tell you about the rear seat because we don't have cages in our cars. I have a box and paperwork in the back of mine. (CV)

a dumb q?
why do the Fat Cops always get the "pursuit vehicles"?
we have a few guys & gals in town that got the mustangs,
and you can see thier belly when they are inside the car.
it's something to see them get out.....makes me queasy...

The Chargers and Magnums are nice, we have a few of each. The shifting issue has been discussed at length, and while there is some delay it is not something you can't work around, just takes some getting used to.
They need some more time to really be tested, and until they are my car of choice will be the Vic. Being in a Vic (over an Impala or Intrepid, about the only other chioces at the time), probably saved my life when I was t-boned by an F650 service truck in an intersection. They are simply a solid, well built, tough platform, perfect for police work.

Yes. You're right. It is a dumb question
What's your point? Oh wait. You weren't making one.

In terms of an overall vehicle, the CV is tried and true. As for handling, most people don't know how well they actually handle. I was surprised at what you can get those things to do.
