This is about the "other" truck

This is what I just posted on the Z71 site. If it's in a bad place, can a mod move it for me?

I'm so angry I'm spitting nails!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I have been having a stumbling / stalling problem on my '04 flex fuel burb. It started last week when my wife had it die on the way to work. It started when I got there, and stumbled and stuttered on the way to the near by dealer. Well they wanted lots of money to do a fuel filter, MAF clean, intake clean, and injector clean. All for only $500. Well, it was running fine for the last few days, until yesterday, when it died on my wife again. I dragged it home, since it would not start this time, and could not figure it out. I went and got a fuel filter and some sea foam, and got that put in this morning. It had started earlier this morning, but died after about 10 minutes. After the new fuel filter, it fired right up, and then died again after 10 or 15 minutes. I was talking to a mechanic buddy of mine, who said I should try blowing through the filter to see how clogged it was. As I looked into it, I noticed I could see right through it. Yup, some JERK put a hole through the filter with a phillips screwdriver. How do I know, because I can see the nice imprint of the four ridges of a phillips. I bought this thing a year ago, and have put 35K on it. It was at the dealer a few weeks ago for an airbag light, and a service tire light. I declined the service tire light since it was $300. Well conveniently it did this a week or two later. I think the JERK mechanic that wanted the tire monitor job sabotaged me. So, since it's still stumbling and stuttering, what do you think I can do? I'm assuming that crap got passed the filter, since it was not filtering, and is clogged somewhere between the filter and the injector tips. So, is there a screen or anything to catch crap before the injectors? What can I do? Do I need a full set of injectors, or is there a screen in the pressure regulator or something that I can work on? I'm VERY angry right now. This is exactly why I hate dealers."

no much u can do. If you could prove the dealer messed with your fillter that would be one thing but i dont think u can.

What size motor u got in the burban. A new set of 26lbs or 28.8s dependong on witch motor u have are easy to find and even easyer to change. If i remember the fuel rail is held on by 4 bolts

The dealer, of course, won't call back or answer the phone now. I didn't even tell them what was wrong, only that I needed to talk to the them about recent service. Go figure. I wish I could find a trustworthy Chevy dealer near me.

It's a 5.3L V8, VIN "Z" (Flex Fuel motor). It looked like the fuel injectors are easy to change, if I knew which injectors to get. What about a pressure regulator?

Well there's a nice 52lbs of fuel pressure, so injectors most likely . . . .

Do not jump up and down yell scream or threaten bodily injury, take a deep breath and write
a "nice"letter to the service manager, dealership owner and,cc your states Dept.of Consumer Affairs. Let them do the work for you. Initiate a paper trail expressing your view of the sitiation. You might also ask the dealership two questions1) is it really worth your time to attempt to take advantageof the dealership for x dollars and,(2) what is the difference in cost to obtain a customer and keep a customer?Just my .02.

I'm out in the Huntley area.

I suspect that a miffed mechanic tried to get a nice injector job out of it by letting fuel get straight from the tank to the injectors. It's too convenient that I say "no" to a $300 tire sensor job, and a week later the truck is dead in my driveway, with a nice screwdriver hole in the filter. Also, the filter was original to the truck it seems, since there was undercoating on the filter. So I got 75K worth of crap that was in the filter up to the injectors now.

Report it and your suspicions about the who and the why to law enforcement. It's vandalism, and they will at least have to take a report.

Now call your insurance and let them handle it, but insist that the work not be done by that dealer.

hhhhhhhh

Dealer says that there is just no way that they would engage in such business practices. What a surprise. I guess a neighbor kid must have climbed under there and done it at night. Gotta love honest mechanics these days.

So I have a new fuel filter, clean throttle body and IAC hole, etc. No start. I've got 52lbs of fuel pressure during the crank, but no fire. Could that many injectors have taken a dump at the same time? Something strange is happening.

I'd hate to sound silly, but is it throwing codes, or a CEL?

Have you looked at the ignition system? Are you getting spark? With all the bad fuel getting into the motor, maybe take a look at the spark plugs. Plugs are known to foul up with bad fuel. Check out the coil (or is coils?).
