I then had to cut the tabs off of the top cap, so it will be able to sit ontop of the lower cap. I also had to ground down some small little groove that were located on the base of the caps.

The Dremel made fast work of the tabs and the bench grind removed the ridges on the base of the caps. I mated to two rear caps together with JB Weld and then sanded down t he run off.

I bought a valve stem sleeve kit, in chrome. The sleeves were too long, and I had to cut 1/4" off the length. The belt saw easily cut through the sleeves and the bench grinder made the trimmed end nice and smooth

I had originally intended on trimming them up and having my local powdercoating shop make them match the silver satin finish on the H2 wheels.
While they appeared to be metal, I could not get a magnet to stick to them.

So, I then sanded off the chrome finish and found some silver spray paint at Advanced Auto, which appeared to better match the finish of the silver satin on the H2 wheels. I made a little job to hold the sleeves while they are painted.

I just started this and hope to get 4-5 light coats on the sleeves. I hope the spray paint holds up, but I am not too optimistic that it will.

If all else fails, I will find some small diameter/thin wall METAL tubing, cut it into small pieces, and have it powdercoated.

The sleeves have a 0.010" wall, are 0.425" OD and 0.415" ID. After thinking about it, I am just going to use these sleeves as a temporary fix until I can have some METAL sleeves cut/trimmed and powdercoated.....

D45 -

Thanks for the detailed write-up and photos. I would love to see the finished product for the rear wheels. I have the H2 caps (only 4 though) that came with the rims but didn't know what I was going to do with the rears.

I am thinking of cutting down and painting (black to match my rims) the Dodge center caps but I am not sure if I will need to sell them with my factory wheels. If so, I may just paint the hubs and get some 2" stainless lug nuts instead.

Great looking truck - post you final photos to see the completed job!

Looks really good D45! I think I am going to try and modify the stock center caps, paint them black to match my rims. But if that doesn't work, I will be following in your footsteps!

Thanks for the write-up and photos, great job!

Just an FYI,
The stock 3rd gen hub caps will fit the H2 wheels without modifications. What I did was double nut the wheel studs. There's just enough stud that sticks out past the first nut to grab a second nut. Finger tight is good enough because the hub cap grips all 8 nuts and they can't back off. With the second nut, the hub pops right on and hangs on. I ran the H2 shiny chrome rims for several years before going with 19.5 Rickson's. I'll see if I can post up a photo later.

****EDIT****
I want to just add;
I bought my tires and wheels off some gal who drove her Hummer from the dealer to the Les Schwab dealer for some 22" wheels. I paid her $400 for all four. I then took them to a machine shop where the machinist aired down the tires so the wheels would sit flat on the table. Didn't break the bead, let alone dismount the tires. When I got them home, I bolted one up. I also had the H2 caps and lug nuts. It was then I realized that a second nut on the lug would work to hold an unmodified RAM cap onto the H2 wheel just fine
It's now 'later'!
