Where to pick up keyed accessory power

I'm installing my electric seat heater's. I need a keyed source. I found no place on the inside of the truck. I assume I have to go straight to the fuse box. Is there an extra keyed souce in there. Could I run a wire under the cover with out any problem's. I'm affraid of it getting wet inside the box. What have you guy's done. I actually need 2 10 amp source's. Forgive my electrical stupidity here, but could I just run a single 12ga. wire from the box to the inside of the truck, then connect 2 10 amp fuse's to that. I'm just trying to keep it neat looking. I plan on using a fuse with a pigtail on it inside the fuse box. Thank's.

EDIT:

I just did some testing with my test light. I was only able to find 1 spot that was a keyed source. Hole #37 to be exact, incase anyone need's to know. So since there's only 1 spot,,,could I do like I said above. Run a 12 ga. wire from the box inside the truck, and then splice in 2 10 amp line's. They each have their own fuse. Thank's.

They sell a thing called an "add a fuse" you can plug it into any fuse slot.. there is a wire comming from it that you hook to your new item.. it holds 2 fuses 1 for the origional item and one for the new item.

In my fuse box I found 1 unused fuse that is keyed power.. I plan on installing the add a fuse in there and running the wire out of the fuse box cover with some silicone.. (can tell you which socket it is though)..

One more thought.. can you buy the wiring harness that goes to the heated seats??? I would guess that somewhere in the truck up under the dash (maybe behind the cubby hole in the center dash since that is where the switches are mounted) there would be the factory plugs for the heated seats

I was in there, but didn't notice any extra wire's. But I will look again. The only problem with that is, I found the fuse for the factory heated seat's, but it's shared with the power mirror's. And those are not keyed power. I don't know if it was differant from model to model or what.

Here the fuse I may use. Look at that page and the next. There's all kind's of option's. But I couldn't find anything anywhere about "add a fuse". Where did you see them.

Gerry, you sir, MAY be a genuis. I pulled the dash back apart and I did infact find a plug that's not going to anything. It's just plugged into a piece of plastic. And, it's only hot while the key is on.

I hope this is infact for the seat heater's. Now all's I have to do is try and figure out what it's for. There are 4 wire's. 1 bigger red, smaller blue, purple, and green. Off to see if I can find a wiring diagram.

Here's a pic of the wire.

I got my add-a-fuse at Napa. They are kinda expensive at $12, but worth it IMO.

I think that wire is for the pass side air bag switch. But, I don't have one. Wonder if I could use it.

I wouldn't, it may make the airbags deploy when you don't want them to or not deploy when you need them to! and those wires go to the airbag computer thru the CANBUS so it could mess some really expensive stuff up if you try to use that plug for power.
The cigarette lighter is keyed power, I am using it to control a relay for my snowplow and some other stuff

I think if there is a wire plug it will be back behind your guages.

In my truck I have the 2 seat switchs and the 4X4 control **** where your guages are located... (probably was a cubby hole before your guages)..

That wire you pulled out is probably the Air bag stuff.. I think that is where the Airbag switch goes if you have a std cab..

Humm wonder if you could go to dodge and buy the Airbag on/off switch and plug it in there???

Like DR3500 just posted, I don't think it would be a good idea to mess with that wire.

I could maybe use my cig lighter. The only thing about that is I have my gauge's tied into there. I guess I could find out how many amp's those are pulling. It's the ISSPRO'S with the amp box's. The seat's only pull 5 amp's each.

Keyed power you can get from the radio cct, the heater cct, or directly at the ign switch. This is running a relay correct?

You can install the airbag switch but you have to get a permission letter from the NTSB stating you know how to use it and you have to get the dealer to enable it in the computer.

The fuse multiplier so to speak can be had at Geno's Garage for 12.95 per 10pack.
You could also consider the Cirkitt Boss from them, it gives you 7 ignition hot circuits for gauges, seat heaters etc. It sends one wire to the fuse box so the power is ignition on, and sends two hots right to the Battery, thus keeping the load off of the factory circuits. At least thats how I think it works.

Most of the Mopar accessories have you tap into the cig lighter power. This is a 30 amp fused ignition feed. There should also be power in the connector under the drivers seat if you are mounting the module under there...
Hope this helps...
