Quick question about a Getrag

A local guy is selling a Getrag that is supposedly from a 93 cummins, says he does not know much about it so will sell it for 500, here are some pics, would you think it would be worth getting?

It is definitely a getrag, does he have the shifter to go with it? They are getting pretty hard to find and I would think that 500 is a good price, even for a core. Hit him at 400 and settle at 450. Rebuild it, add extra oil (30 wt) to it and party on...Mark
Edit: Take a look at that Chrysler label on the side. I found a factory rebuilt unit on ebay and it has a very similar label on it that is dated...

That's a fair price but whatever you do get the clutch fork for it. You can find a bellhousing easy enough for it but you would be more likely to win the lottery than find a clutch fork for it.

I didn't even think of the bellhousing, but if it doesn't have one and you buy it, PM me, I might just have one laying around...Mark

Whatever you do , pull the top cover off and look in. Maybe pull the drain plug. Water goes to the bottom. These things will take in a lot of water thru the missing shifter on top. Look inside it. From the looks of pic it seems to be sitting outside in the back of a pickup. Check it. I've been burned twice by these having water in them Good Luck

One other thing shake the input shaft up and down and see if you have any play in that bearing. If it is very loose it will chew up and destroy your cluster gear( expensive and a pain to change). Also why is it yanked out?

The shifter is there in the picture. What's missing is the boot. The stick IS hard to find. I had to get one from Oliver. At any rate, it will probably rust wether it gets rained on or not. Definitely take the top off and inspect for rust.

When I had my trans replaced the core charge was $500. IIRC.

Semantics I say. I am so sorry that I called the stick a shifter, I am so glad that you pointed that out...Mark

If the input shaft feels tight (no play) and can be shifted through all the gears, it's worth $500. Pop off the top cover and a pto cover for extra investigating.

The shifter is there.... anyone can fashion a handle for it.

I remember a link from here or maybe I found it elsewhere they are sold brand new, this was maybe a couple years ago but are they hard to get now? I had to add some metal to mine and re shape it in the past.
