What an afternoon! It's been a long 6 hours. No less than 16 confirmed tornado reports, lots of damage but as of now, no fatalities. I've got a buddy in Marengo County I haven't been able to get hold of, worried. At least 3 tornadoes passed within a mile of where he's at. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow or I'm going to end up driving 140 miles one way to check on him. Tuscaloosa got hit pretty hard, about 40,000 without power. Watched one of the tornadoes on live tower cam making it's way along the south side of Tuscaloosa. It's an scary thing to see. Daylight tomorrow is not going to be pretty in allot of places.
Those storms are all over the news up here too. Is this early or unusual?
Fronty, hope you are ok.
I sent a text to my wife to see if they are ok and made it through the areas that are expected to flood and no reply yet. She's probably in one of our dead spots for cell service.

The talk about our flood being as bad or worse then 74 reminds me that back in 74 we had lots of snow, not as much as this winter which was an all time record. Then we had very hot and stormy weather with one storm that dumped 9 inches of rain and flooded the entire city. Our water table is pretty much at the surface now.

Be safe!

Well, she's right, there IS a limb on the roof... 'course the whole rest of the tree is pushing down on it! You don't need a tree trimmer, you need a tree REMOVER! Good luck with it Fronty.

Keep us posted on the wife Scotty.

well, since she told the adjuster it was a limb, I think we got put lower on the priority list. He's prolly expecting to come out see a few busted 30 year old shingles and ready to discuss prorating the life of the roof and tell us it aint worth a claim.
Depending on what the adjuster says and the roofing guy, I may try to go with a metal roof, if they want the whole 9 year old roof replaced.
I looked in the attic while it was still light outside and I could only see a little light coming in near the wall. It did crack my picture window, which surprised me because it hit dead center.
The wall above is bowed/twisted just a bit, but its paneling so no drywall damage.
I figure Im looking at $7500 in damages...

Speaking of a dusting of snow...
The forecast was for another centimeter of snow overnight.

Six inches of the heavy wet snow is on the ground here this morning.

l tampered, I mean Alturd the ph0o0 for awl oPhew.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that and a WHOLE LOT OF THIS!

Not sure what that rusty leaking can has or had inside it but its now in the Phoo00 pot. I had to bore out the toilet seat to get the can in there. Maybe it was a 45 gallon drum. Sure was big.

Enjoy.

I have to go in for a 4 hr day today.

Actually, that's about all we had. I think I only plowed snow 2 or 3 times this year.

Morning all.

1851 - A lighthouse was swept away in a gale at Minot’s Ledge, MA.

1862 - Confederate President Jefferson Davis approved conscription act for white males between 18 and 35.

1862 - In the U.S., slavery was abolished by law in the District of Columbia.

1900 - The first book of postage stamps was issued. The two-cent stamps were available in books of 12, 24 and 48 stamps.

1922 - Annie Oakley shot 100 clay targets in a row, to set a women's record.

1942 - The Island of Malta was awarded the George Cross in recognition for heroism under constant German air attack.

1943 - In Basel, Switzerland, chemist Albert Hoffman accidently discovered the the hallucinogenic effects of LSD-25 while working on the medicinal value of lysergic acid.

1944 - The destroyer USS Laffey survived immense damage from attacks by 22 Japanese aircraft off Okinawa.

1945 - American troops entered Nuremberg, Germany.

1947 - In Texas City, TX, the French ship Grandcamp, carrying ammonium nitrate fertilizer, caught fire and blew up. The explosions and resulting fires killed 576 people.

1951 - 75 people were killed when the British submarine Affray sank in the English Channel.

1962 - Walter Cronkite began anchoring "The CBS Evening News".

1968 - The Pentagon announced that troops would begin coming home from Vietnam.

1982 - Queen Elizabeth proclaimed Canada's new constitution in effect. The act severed the last colonial links with Britain.

1983 - China shelled the Vietnam border in retaliation for raids.

1987 - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) sternly warned U.S. radio stations to watch the use of indecent language on the airwaves.

1987 - The U.S. Patent Office began allowing the patenting of new animals created by genetic engineering.

1992 - The House ethics committee listed 303 current and former lawmakers who had overdrawn their House bank accounts.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you built a time machine with all new parts, then went back in time, would the parts you used to make the machine disappear because they didn't exist then?

Coffee is ready.

I think your looking at at least double that estimate, probably triple.

I wish you the best of luck Fronty, wish I were closer to help out.

We do this every spring and every fall. This spring just started out a little warm earlier than usual and the jet stream has been bowed and over top of us allot. That drives the warm, moist air off the gulf into the junk that's been coming out of the Seattle area.

Like Tim said, don't be surprised if it grows a bit. Since that TREE is sitting square over the center of the picture window and cracked it, the lintel is probably bent and will need replacing. That is the steel angle iron that spans the window and supports everything above the window. Replacing it will be fun.

Thanks Tim! Finally got hold of him this morning. He came back to B'ham just ahead of the storms but didn't have his phone on. The indicated path of the tornadoes where he was in Marengo County was wrong. It was actually 3-4 miles further north. It's scary that they can miss it by that much.

The morning news isn't so good. The numbers in Alabama are now 7 injured and 7 dead. I believe the total number of fatalities is around 17 at this time. All the deaths in Alabama were in the southwestern counties. The number of tornado touchdowns will probably be close to 100 by the time they get it all added up. Prayers from here to everyone that has been affected by this.

Got a call from an old friend last night just before 2200. His wife is in UAB ICU, they're just waiting on God to take her. She been sick for a while now and having fluid drained off her abdomen every week, infection finally set in.

it doesn't look like its deformed, it just cracked the huge single piece of glass. I figured it was from the initial impact and the shockwave running thru the wall.
I know some of you guys have been thru insurance home repairs before, whats the run down?
My first goal was to get the tree off the roof after the claim was started.
I have pictures.
Ill keep the tree around until after the adjuster has his say.
There is just so much I dont know. Im not trying to make money off the deal, I just want my house fixed properly, and not be out a bunch of money in the process.

Good morning. Boy, do I feel for you guys that are experiencing all that horrible weather! Almost makes me feel guilty for ribbing y'all about me living in Paradise. Hope everybody comes out of this OK.

Scotty, anything floating yet? At least you will not experience a tsunami.

Still fighting that squeal in the front of my engine. Took the alternator off and took it to an alternator shop and had them spin it up on their test stand. They could not find anything wrong with it, so that in theory eliminates that as the source. It is not often a problem beats me, but this one has me scratching my head.

Off to do more of nothing. Maybe tax my brain and read a book. Would like to go fishing, but a non resident fishing license appears to cost $55 and that is not worth it for a couple of weeks.
