Really????? I don't know about that. Mercon/Dexron III is NOT a synthetic blend. 47re's and 48re's require that synthetic blend for the seals and bearings. To each your your own I guess........

Also clean the ground cables where there mount to the block and the chassis. And I'd suggest doing the APPS reset. Oh, don't rush out so fast for an alternator. Do all the simple cheap fix's first.

Yep, the middle position should be timing only. Down will be either off or high idle (if you've down loaded the proper tune) and up will be performance mode.
