Putting 2nd Gen Mirrors on a 1st Gen.. ( PICS)

Well a While Back I put bought soem New Mirros for my DODGE since I can not stand the old school chrome mirrors that never stay in place..

And since I have a Big trip coming up I need to get some tow mirrors So I decided it was time to make them work.

I made a cardboard template then , I copying that onto some steel, etc..

Once I located the correct location I welded the plate into place added soem bondo to smooth it out ... then the rain started so I threw up a tarp real quick but it was so Humid the bondo would not dry..

so I ended up just painting over it and installing mirror so I could drive the truck last night, since I had dinner plans.. I am gonna do passenger side today and hopefully finish the bondo work also..

here are pics:
First shows old mirror

next 2 are plated welded on.

With some bondo

with mirror on in closed position

with mirror on in open towing position

I hope to get soem more pics today..

That looks better than I thought it would. Can you still open the vent window?

I like it - been thinking of retrofitting some 3rd gen towing mirrors on the '98... I think the fold-out mirrors are fantastic for viewing if you're towing or not!
