Sorry, beer is absolutely essential. THANKS for the 3000. I had 2010 loaded, are the other features setup just like it? I like the high idle and cold engine protection settings of 2010.

Sent you an email. Yes the high idle is 2min and 140deg cold engine protection.

Sorry to bring this back up again, but have yet to hear a response on this thread or directly on Quadzilla's site related to some of our trucks not showing ANY difference in the "Timing Only" mode, either in sound, but especially in mileage and that's 75% of what I bought it for... improved mileage.

This lack of response is seemingly opposite of what I had come to hear and expect from Quad and the reason I spent my $$ with him a few months ago.

Disappointed in CO..........

I guess I missed it when that was brought up??

I don't guess I knew there was an issue that the timing only mode was not working or was not shoing mileage gains? I have seen some lengthy reports on the Max Mileage box which is the XZT+ without the performance setting and they looked right on target???

Are you certain you are running the switch in the middle position? I am assuming it is very obvious when you are on the performance setting?

As far as how to tell it works you should:

a) be able to hear a slight change in pitch of the motor
b) tell a slight difference in performance when toggling the switch from off to timing only while accelerating
c) see it in mileage provided you are making trips that would allow proper calculating (not stop and go rush hour traffic that varies day to day).

I did notice a difference in mileage in timing only but the sound of the engine doesn't change at all on my truck.

I have the 3000 tune on my truck now and I like it alot! The power seems more refined than the past tunes I have ran.

Thanks Quad for the response.

I am 100% sure I'm in the Timing only setting (the middle position) and it is definitely obvious when I put it into the power setting, that is a ton of fun.

When I switch from off to timing only, I don't notice a difference in engine pitch at all. Also, when I am in the timing only setting, after 2 minutes of cold startup, my RPM only raises a couple hundred to near 1000. Not higher as I would have expected. When I switch it to the "off" position, after another couple minutes, it raises to 12-1300 or whatever it should. Noticeably higher.

I need to try again, but believe the last time I tried accelerating and moving the switch from "timing only" to "off", I didn't really feel anything. I will have to check again going from "off" to "timing only".

And I have kept track of my mileage pretty much every tank in various conditions for the past 5 years. With the "timing only" setting, the various tanks I have had since using that have not been noticeably different... still around 15.5+mpg (use to be 16.5 average before ULSD). My truck is an early 2001, built in late 2000 if that matters.

I'm running the 2004 program. Thanks for your response.

This is fairly normal especially the colder it gets. IF your grid heaters are cycling then it will not let us raise the rpms all the way to 12-1300. Also the only time high idle is going to work in any level other than off on this tune is when the motor is under 140 deg.

When I switch it to the "off" position, after another couple minutes, it raises to 12-1300 or whatever it should. Noticeably higher.
Anytime you switch positions the High Idle is going to die and restart its timer for 2 minutes. I am guess the extra few minutes of idle time warms the motor up enough the grid heaters have settled down and allow us to idle up completely. The other way to test this would be to leave it in setting 1 "timing only" and just touch the pedal to kill the high idle. Leave it sitting for 2 more minutes and when it idles up I bet it goes on up to normal high idle range at that time.

My guess is that the colder it gets, the longer it will take to get all the way to 12 or 1300. Also if you just leave it sitting it should go ahead and work its way up as the ECM will allow it.

Now, if you don't think the timing setting is working the only way I can test it is for you to send it in and we are happy to do that if you want.

What is your mileage like in the performance setting?

Also what I've noticed on the high idle and my truck is if I engage it and the a/c is running it won't ramp up above 1K until the compressor kicks off or I turn the a/c off and then back on. Seems like if there is a load on the electrical system it will mess with it some.

Thanks for the explanation.

As far as mileage, I have not run it consistently for a full tank in the performance setting. I only turn it on for short times when I want to have some fun or if I'm towing and want to get around someone quicker on the highway. If I take a long trip, maybe I'll just leave it in the perf. setting to see.

Currently, I'm not driving the truck near as much since I've been traveling out of state and my job allows me to work from home other times. I appreciate the offer to take a look at it. Would you need just the box under the dash or all the cabling too? Obviously it could be in the cabling, but that makes it more difficult to remove.

If the cable was bad either it would not work or it would be setting codes. It sounds like it is working but, possibly not properly? So to test the box we would just need the box only.

I ask about the performance setting and mileage because if you drive it normal it is about the same as setting 1. the timing is the same and most likely it is not going to be fueling. So if you are getting mileage in 1 setting and not the other then there could be an issue. If you are not getting mileage in either setting then we need to look at tuning.

Thanks Quad... I'll drive it for an extended period on a trip in the performance setting then and be back in touch. It could be several weeks before I do that tho. Thanks again!
