Uh The Valvoline PS is not synthetic fluid just additives. Read the label.
Redline & Royal Purple offers true synthetic

Ditto! The others are blends at best.

you can use ATF +4 for PS fluid without any issues walmart carries that stuff Amsoil ATF is also approved for use in PS systems i highly recommend using a suction gun and flushing the system 2 or 3 times, rather than completely draining and refilling the system

Well dang!! I already changed it out. I used a turkey baster to remove the fluid. I know it wont get all the fluid out that way so I was goin' to do it again in a week or two. I did use the valvoline fluid and did notice that it said it was blended.

I just did mine this weekend. Turkey baster and Valvoline Syn blend. Much smoother and the cold groan is gone. I'll do it again the next week end if it isn't below 0. Come spring I'll purge the system.
Lube guard worked great last winter but I can't find any now.

I'd be careful with that on pre '03 trucks. The owner's manual specifically states that the rubber components of the power steering system aren't compatible with ATF.
