What size tire should I go with?
 

I am considering either a set of 33/12.5/16.5 or 35/12.50/16.5. I am also planning on doing a leveling kit. I would like to go with the 33"s but if they look to small after the leveling kit I'll have to go bigger, so I want to buy the right size the first time. So what do you think 33's or 35's? Stockers are close to 33`s. youd probably be Po`ed. 16.5 are hard to come buy around here anymore. 16 come in many BIG sizes it seems now a days.

I've got the rims and I get a really good discount on tire through work so finding tires shouldnt be to hard. I just cant decide on what size :cool:

I have 35s on my truck and i wouldnt go down in size. the trucks are just to big for any smaller tires. I have perfect clearance with them too.

I'd say stick with 33's with the cost of fuel now-a-days. With reasonable driving habits & 35's I'm getting 17-17.5mpg but you can bet when these 35's wear out I'm going down to 33's.;)

33x12.50's look good!

I'd say 33's with no leveling kit or 35's with. I'm with got smoke, once my 35's wear out I'll be going to 33's and getting rid of the D25's.

what REAR END are you running? With a 35 inch tire, the 4.10 will equal to roughly a 3.73, a good all around ratio, If you have the 3.55 rear, 33's are the way to go for economy, the 35's would be too heavy for those gears.. I run 285 liberators which are 33" tall mind you and can keep it at 2000 rpms at 69-70 mph...good economy too...:)

Hhhmmmmmmmmmm........I've heauled heavy with my 35's and 3.55 gears before definately not "to heavy for those gears." You may have to wind it out a little more but when you get rolling on the interstate I'll bet you get a lot better mileage than with 4.10's:rolleyes:

I got a set of Eagle Alloy's and tires that are 33/12.50/16.5 that I would love to get rid of because of the price of the tires. If I could find someone who wanted to trade some stock wheels with some 265/75/16's I would be all over it as the tires are so much cheaper. Plus that 12.50 is so wide and the wheels are offset it slings everything all over the truck. PM if interested. See pic in Gallery for wheel and tire set up.

Let me do a minor hijack here,I too need larger tires and I thought I would go ahead and get new wheels. My lug pattern is 8x6.5 right? Also, how wide and tall might I be able to go after my truck has a 4" skyjacker lift. It is being installed as we speak so I was going to get a set of wheels off ebay and get some tires put on asap. Mostly I'm on the road, but for that 10% of the time I'm off the pavement I make it count so I don't want to rub. How han I measure to figure out wheel and tire size? Can a tire place help me?

I would call Skyjacker or I have allways gotten great help and advice from Four Wheel Parts. Either of them should be able to help you.

I'd advise you to stick with the stock wheels to the greatest extent possible. The stock 16x8s will fit a 285 perfectly-- up to a 315 fits acceptably.

If you can handle some minor rubbing and REALLY want taller gearing, then 315s are the way to go.

If you want the largest you can fit with NO fitment issues, then 285 is the way to go.

Most people find 285 to be a really good balance, and the tire selection is much greater in a 286 compared to a 315 size.

i have never had 35's nor do i plan on them as of yet, but i speak from stop and go traffic, which is what i deal with mainly.. Its nice to know that 35's are good for highway usage and you are right, they are a lower number when compared to 33's and 410s, so they should get good mileage, more Tire rpms less engine rpms..
