Question What to do next?

My 5th gear just feel off going down the highway, So am about to order all the needed parts to get the NV4500 rebuilt, and put in a new clutch at the same time, so I can add more power. Which brings me to my question, I make about 31psi at about 7/8 throttle just driving fast down the high way. EGT's are about 1000 to 1100. But never really higher then that, no matter how much I punch it. I dont tow anything. I just bought the truck from my uncle with the current setup, so I am new to all the the AFC housing, startwheel, all that stuff, so I have come here. I hold the boost just fine, I just run out of revs, I want to go faster, and I want to get there faster, I dont care about smoke, (can't wait to go though the tunnel on I-64 into Norfolk though) I know that capabilites of the Cummins, help me unlesh it. Thanks

you could maybe try bigger injectors for power and stronger springs for a higher rev.

What's your top speed now?
What's your gear ratio?
How fast do you want to go?

Well doing about 2750RPM, I can do about 100mph, I have 3.54. I can't pull any more then that. I just want to get to 100 faster then I do now, and possiably peg the speedo.

You need a 3K gov springs kit it'll allow you to rev higher and longer (sounds like a blue pill for our trucks) before it defuels.
Also what size tires are you running?

Great choice I run the 17 only because tires and wheels came together. They should be 34.7 or so high I call'em 35"
Don't forget the larger diameter is throwing off the speedo.
Use a GPS to find true speed or use mile marker to find error in speedo
Hope that helps,

I think I am going to throw in the 3000 GSK, Right now I am in a dire need of a tranny rebuild, and a new clutch, so I can get more power, any recommendations on some NV4500 mods, I am getting the fully splined mainshaft, cast iron extension housing, and all new bearings and seals from Standard transmission. I am thinking this is what I need. I have about 2 grand to spend on everything, since I am not making that much power, I dont need a super heavy duty clutch. I dont know what to do. Get a reman tranny, have my sent off to get rebuilt, have it rebuilt out here? I dont want to deal with this thing again, I am realy lost here.

Can't help much with the manual tranny questions but I have found www.mopar4less.com to be helpful, give them a shout at 800-748-2139.
I put in 4K gov springs and the extra work and expense are not worth it. That's why I recomend 3K springs.

Can anyone tell me where the on the pump the spring kit goes, or explain or tell me where I can find out, exactally how the pump works, also, things like where the star adjuster wheel is, and the little free tweaks that you can do to the pump?

I am ordering the Texas Chillie Dog,
“Texas Chili Dog” – bearings, seals, syncros, & upgraded m/shaft kit $515.00
but then I was thinking, I only have like 69K miles on the tranny, do I really need the whole rebuild kit, any opinions on this. I dont think there is any damage done to the transmission. I could just get the upgrade parts, save some money, and build a better transmission. Any one familiar with the cast iron extension housing, any had the OEM housing break on them?

When you take off the afc top, scribe the plate, the springs are underneath. Be very careful with the magnet so you don't drop them, they are hard to fish out. Did you buy the impact hammer?

I dont think an impact hammer is going to work. The screws holding on the plate takes a flat head screwdriver. And they are really tight on there. I am going to get ahold of the previous owner, my uncle, and ask him about it. He had all the work down, its slide half way in the housing. Right now I am on cruise for a week. so I wont get to do anything for a while.
