What amp fuse

I installed a VDO EGT gauge. It has power leads for both the light bulb and the gauge itself.

I looked carefully through the documentation that came with the gauge but I can't find anything about fuse sizes.

My question is "What amp fuse should I use in my painless wiring kit for the bulb power and what amp fuse for the gauge? The PWK comes with 10 amp fuses in all positions.

Thanks

Re:What amp fuse

It depends on wire size. 16 gauge = 10 amp, 14 gauge = 15 amp, 12 gauge = 20 amp.

Chris

Re:What amp fuse

You should tap into whichever fuse controls the dimming of the panel lights on an '03. That way you can at least dim the gauge lights. The other wire should be able to be connected to any of those PWK lines. You bought the "all ignition on" one right?

Tony

Thanks Stamey,

I will check the PWK. I believe the power wires are 16 gauge and I guess that is why it shipped with 10 amp fuses in it. I'm no electrician by any stretch of the imagination so getting some input gives me piece of mind.

Re:What amp fuse

Tony,

Yep, your right. I bought the all ignition one. At this point I don't have power to the bulb. I'm somewhat reluctant to tap into the factory wiring. I found a post this morning that clearly identifies which wire would be correct to allow bulb control to work with the dash lighting. I was thinking I would take one of the PWK wires and put a switch on it at the base of the gauge pod so that I could control it that way. A little more hassle no doubt but it would avoid tapping the factory wire. I been down the bombing road with my last two gas powered vehicles and the warrenty issues still linger in my mind.
