Up grade for mileage improvement

I have the Van Aaken V5. Improved the mileage some. What be the next possibility for mileage improvement . Don't want to spend a lot of money or get complicated yet. Would improving the air intake sys make a difference?

Intake is a Must

I think the intake is the first important upgrade for mileage and power. Especially in a 12 valve. Obviously from there the exhaust is very important. A 3 inch straight thru is suffice, but a 4 inch is better. 3 would do just fine though unless you really put in major upgrades. Might as well go a 4, unless you are just replacing the muffler. To go cheap, make your own. Use heavy guage galvanized, but grind it down before you weld it, very toxic to weld. Or buy almunized or stainless, but the galvanized is cheap.

On the intake, make your own if you want to save money. I personally think the homemades are as good in terms of filtration and performance as the expensive ($200.00-$300.00) setups like AFE. For me, I just used a K&N filter, attached it to a PVC pipe from Home Depot, took off the top of the air box, put the filter in the bottom of the box for some heat/debri protection, and it works great. I also added a prefilter wrap for added filtration. Works really good. Someone will pipe in that its bad because its a K&N, nevermind that tens of thousands of people use them for hundreds of thousands of miles without problems, nevermind that i have a prefilter for added layers to match up with the AFE, and the heat shield, you can make a better one, but I get great performance out of it like it is. i could make one for less if i decide to, but its handles great. If you feel better, just buy the biggest AFE and attach it to a PVC. Same thing.

When I added the jammer III's my milage went up about 1mpg. Most improvements to power will help mpg.....however in my case it is difficult to drive like a human being with the added power. This does not help mpg at all.
When I installed the injectors my cluch began slipping w/in 20 min( my driving style due to added power). I really babied it for the rest of the tank and got22.4 mpg(hand calc).

The VB and Edge have added 1.5 - 2.5 mpg, I am VERY pleased with the results - I don't drive it very hard, I have the 47RE Scatter Fear!
