Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
There are allot of folks on the TDR that are working on Twins, what about here.

Mine are great, I will not go back to a single!

Re:Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
Hey Jim, I am working on a set of twins for my truck. I just joined the TDR and getting allot of good info there.

I noticed that most guys use the HBT3B (?) and the large turbo. The turbo of my choice is off a 3406C Cat. I just happened to get a couple for ;D free ;D. I can't seem to locate any info on this creater. It does not have any ID tags on it other than Cat. The way I figure it this turbo is used on the same displacement the HBT3B is. I know it is not wise to just guess with a turbo set up but the price is right.

Any Idea where I might be able to get any info on this LARGE turbo?

Thanks

Malcolm

AKA 24VChev
Re:Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
I will probibly have a twin turbo system by summers end. I plan on using my Piers Super HX-40 as my small turbo and a HBT3d that I just got as the large one. Before doing this I need to get my ported head o-ringed and on with studs.

I was just going to do NOS this spring but after seeing the Bully Dog 03 in action twins will be next then the NOS ;D

My post above is a direct reply from Al @ Piers, but wondering if that price is $US or $Can? Seems high if you think bout it. I am awaiting that reply as well?
Re:Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
I have a few sets on the drawing board, one for my truck and one for a 24 valve truck in town. Looks like we will have to go hybrid on all of the turbos to achieve our goals. Unfortunantly, this will increase the cost

Twins are not really a one size fits all deal.... especially with the 12 valvers. RPM range, manifold pressures you intend to run, fueling levels, how much lag can you tolerate, etc.

Don~

Re:Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
I am not working on twins currently, but I already have the turbos. I am going to use an hx40 and a hx55. I have $275 in my hx40(new) and $500 in my hx55(new). Jeff Garmon said he would do the rest for $1200. So it looks like $2000 for me.
Re:Twin Turbo's who has them or is working on them
I am running a farmer-built stainless steel setup with a PDR HX40 with the 16 cm housing, huffing into box stock HX60 salvaged from a Cummins QST series engine. I am set to bypass exhaust at 93 lbs as measured at the top of the flat plate on the intake manifold at 3,356 rpm. I would have to change the 60 to a turbo with a smaller exhaust turbine for more pressure capacity to get any higher pressures. Although, I seldom run over 48-51 lbs unless I am locked to a dyno.

I do not think my drivetrain will handle much more, as every time I dyno now I have to replace the rear carrier bearings within a few weeks. I built the plumbing myself, so not much cost there, but the HX40 something on the order of about a grand and the 60 about $350 used, and I had to spring 5-6 hundred for the ATS exhaust manifold to handle the extra weight and heat.

Frankly, I cannot tell that much real world difference in normal driving over the single PDR HX40, unless I am pulling hard over the pass between Pendleton and LaGrande. Oregon just does not have any roads straight or steep enough to handle all the boost on a regular basis.

I have a problem with sustained pulling and engine oil temperature running way up to dangerous levels. I do not know if anyone else has that issue, or how they solve it. But, I am out of room to hang anything else on the truck so use Amsoil synthetic and live with it.

I'll take donations,
I have 4 kids & 1 on the way.
