Turbo removal

I will be removing my turbo to tap the manifold for my pyro gauge. I'm trying to budget my time for this. Do I have to disconnect the down pipe to get the turbo away from the manifold, or just remove the 4 bolts that hold the turbo on?
I know some of you drilled and tapped with grease. But, I will be doing it without the turbo on.

Might as well take it off all the way and drill out the center divider to wastegate all six cylinders.

If it's a stock turbo it has no V-band clamp and everything will have to come off. I've never taken off my turbo on any of my trucks to tap the manifold but there's nothing wrong with doing it. It's just a lot more work that I didn't feel was nessicary. Good luck!
