When I had my tranny rebuilt by a local shop, they originaly put a shift kit but ended up with a reprogramming kit. Help to keep the converter from slipping and for harder shifts.....If you have an actual tranny problem, though, neither is a good idea.

They "removed" the shift kit and put in a reprogramign kit. I don't know what you're looking to accomplish or cure, but I would say the preprogamer is the way to go.

I doubt the shift kit will help it. How is it shifting now? If you go with Transgo, go with the TFOD-Diesel shift kit.

My truck goes in tomorrow for the reprogramming kit. The guy @ the shop said "do not install this kit if you have ANY tranny problems, you will only cause them to get MUCH worse, very quickly".

Well, just my advice. If you're wanting a shift kit, I'd highly recommend just getting a pre-built one from one of the experienced builders (HTS, Goerend, DTT etc). There's more to it than just changing the shift points...

I liked my TFOD-Diesel Transgo kit when i had it. Worth every penny. It helped my transmission hold, and shifted better. I put it in myself also. About all of the big tranny builders start with the transgo kit, and go from there with it.

MSR makes a very nice DIY shift kit. Very easy to follow directions and every part you need right done to drill bits.

you want # SM518HD $229 I like them better than Transgo.

The great thing with the transgo is it is only about $60. Mine shifted a little too early under wide open throttle, but I think it would have been fine if I had put the 24 valve spring in it instead of the 12 valve spring.

You get what you pay for! I've used both and the MSR kit is complete and has some differant settings. What is better shifting worth to you? $5-$20-$100-$1000?
I feel the extra $150 was well worth it.

What do you think a reprogramed valve body is?
A valve body with a shift kit.

I've had the transgo reprogramming kit in for a week and what a difference. Its amazing. Firm shifts, very quick lockup, I would not install it if you've got any sort of shifting issues as its supposed to aggravate the problem. Empty and towing, it made a huge difference. I love it!!!

I would honestly just buy a whole valve body from a good tranny builder if i was gonna spend $220 on something just like a transgo except with a few other bells and whistles. Id still have my transgo if I hadnt of gotten a smokin deal on my valve body.
