Trans temp hook up.

I got my trans temp gauge today and i want to know where the best place is to put the sending unit? My truck has the stock transmission pan. Any help would be great! BTW, I thaught there was a test port on the trans for hooking it up? Am i right?

Re:Trans temp hook up.

My opinion there is only one place to put it, in the Hot coolant line coming out of the tranny. Some people do have them in the pan, but to me that is a false reading simply because the fluid is mixing with the cooler stuff coming back.
Dodge has the replacement line with the sender port on it and it also does away with that plastic quick connect fitting on the hose that can melt and cause you to lose your fluid and trash your tranny.
I will look for the numbers and post them here later as well in the Faq section as I look for them about 3 times a month [eyecrazy]

Ok these are the numbers for the hose and fittings. Have your dealer double check these as they may have changed but they will get you in the right area.

1 CH52028764AA Trans Fitting
1 CH00118752 Eng. Mr. 45,
You can also use the stock line and install a "T" using compression type fittings like I did. I got the parts from the local NAPA store.

* One "T" block ................................... NAPA # 3700 X 6
** Two Compression Fittings ................NAPA # 68 X 8

The "T" block has 3 female npt holes.
The compression fittings are npt threads on one end (screws into T) and the compression fitting on the other. The only thing I didn't have to get was a sleeve to adapt the 1/8" npt threaded temp sender into the "T" block because I had one already that came with the gauges. Total cost was $9.76
I hope this helps.

I just did the complete cooler lines replacement to the 2001 style
ch52028764aa = 25.60 ea
ch00118752 = 4.35 ea
cho5011244aa = 98.95 ea

I changed all my lines heres the rest of them
ch04798875ab =76.35 ea
ch04798876ab = 83.35 ea
ch52028673 = 22.13 ea
ch52028674 = 32.10 ea
total = 374.60

I did the change over to the 2001 style because at the time that I replaced my tranny we found all the quick disconnects where bad and would have failed...I advise anyone with these poor designed cooler lines to replace them before they fail and destroy your tranny :'(

The new rubber hose that connects to the cooler that is also a bad design. I have seen 5 so far that have split open. I have gone to the Bill K DTT stainless replacement that eliminates the check valve. You have to wait 45 seconds before taking off from initial start up in the AM, but with braided stainless and increased flow I feel alot safer.

Ok, I got the line and fittings today. I read some where that i have to remove a check ball with this new line. Where is the check ball and how do i remove it? Another question, How much oil will i lose when i take this line off? Thank you guy's a bunch.

Check valve is right underneath the heat exchanger in the rubber "thingy". If you remove it, you'll have to let your truck idle in neutral for 30 sec or so before you get going after start up, to let the tc fill back up.

Glenn

What i mean is, The new tube has a rubber hose on one end, Is there a check ball inside of it? I tryed to blow air thru it and it seems restricted.

MR45,

there is a checkball in the end of the rubber cooler line. On my '02, there is a checkball on the "manifold" so I didn't need the one in the line. Besides, I put on the DTT unit and it is not on there. You do not want two check balls, but if you have multiple drivers, or do not tow real heavy, it's ok to leave one of them in there.

Call Bill and the crew at DTT. He can give you the long and short of it very quickly and clearly.

DTT - Phone# 604-504-4002
866-504-4002
Re:Trans temp hook up.

I have read in different places that removing the check ball causes premature wear on the transmission. Everytime you start the truck the TC is running at a low fluid level because the fluid drains back into the transmission. This is the reason for the check ball.
These transmissions do not pump the fluid in park so you must put it in nuetral before it will refill the lines. The check ball is meant to keep that from being a problem.
This is how it was explained to me.

Re:Trans temp hook up.

I see that the fitting is 1/8 npt, Did you just use a brass fitting to adapt it to the bigger size?

Re:Trans temp hook up.

When i pull that line off, Is all of the fluid going to gush out at me? How much am i going to lose, Would it be better do a service on it when i change the line? Not many miles on the fluid that's in there now.
