Trans converter lock up

I installed a switch to lock up the converter afer 2nd gear, I did a run without it 0-60mph in 8.1 sec from my Juice box and 2nd with switch activated after 2nd gear and did 8.2 seconds???? I though mabey 1/2 a second at least or great if it was a full second. Also my truck misses real hard at full throttle (cuts out) 98 24 valve, 100hp jammer nozzels, edge juice with attitude aem filter and holley blue pump. Last year ran great on hte dyno 393hp 811 lbs torque with a stock 130,000 transmission. I just cant figure out why the transmission switch didnt help and why the truck misses reallllly bad at top rpm??????
Any hope or help.....[verymad]

I would not make full throttle shifts with a locked converter.....something will give out. The most likely reason it is running slower is that you are setup for higher RPM power(venturing a guess since you have no sig) and the locked converter drops the engine out of it's sweet spot and it has to pull back up.

I just put the gear selector in drive and when it hits second I hit the switch and let the transmission shift itself. I think the missing on top end has something to do with being about the times... She spudders baaaaaad! ton of power till top then sounds like a sick war horse.

If you have a built trans, locking the converter can make a large difference. I've seen as much as .5 second drop in the quarter..

And you are making WOT shifts with the converter locked???

I have done this on accident only and my truck is violent when this happens. Maybe VB upgrade with computer keeps shift from being as hard as a full manual transgo like I have??

My Dunrite shifts very smooth under full throttle.

Interesting.....I guess the frictions take the heat in that condition and allow the shifts to stay smooth. My tranny is tuned for hard shifts with high line pressures, and when the converter is locked it will snap your neck and the truck bucks hard. With mine I would be afraid of cracking the case or breaking a shaft, but it is the only manual lockup setup I have delt with.
Apparently, the dodge setups are different.

It's the way Tony builds the valve body. The pressure slope he builds into it allows it to be shifted at WOT without damage to the tranny. His valve body has some of the highest line pressures out there. Heard him tell a customer that yesterday when I stopped by.

Makes sense. Basically, the friction plates slide for a little bit to allow the shift to be smooth. I expect he has tested enough to make sure they dont get hot before line pressure locks them down.

Who are you guys reffering to and who's parts are you using?

Who's Tony? WOT sounds nice to me. I'm interested in the hard shifts. My brothers 99 silverado shifts with a kick. I'm building my tranny with all Suncoast parts. Have any of you used them and how is the performance? I'm attempting to go bulletproof. So basically I just want reassurance, I'm not feeling up to a 4th rebuild.

I've used suncoast converters now in 7 different personal vehicles of mine. The last couple complete rebuild kits and VB's have been HTS. I've beat on my HTS with over 1,000 rwhp in a daily driver.. It stands up to city driving, and also trips to the drag strip. For how long, I don't know. It's been taking the abuse without problems for three years now.
