Tranny gauge and boost install?

I have a 99 CTD with the auto, but have no clue where to plug the tranny temp sensor into this thing. Who cn help me out here? I have the di pricol gauges, and am lsot as to where to plug this into.

Also where do I plug the boost gauge into? Is ther a plug in the intake between the filter and the firewall? If so, where is it?

Thanks,
Dima

I am not aware of any threaded ports for the tranny temp sensor to thread into. In my case, when I installed the Mag-HiTec transmission pan I also insalled the temp sensor. The aftermarket pan has a threaded port for the purpose. In your case I would assume you may have to adapt the pan possibly by welding a threaded adapter to accept the sender, or you may want to install a tee in the trans cooling output line. I'm not sure which is the best location for the sensor (maybe another member could elaborate), on one hand you can measure the temp of the fluid being circulated back into the transmission, on the other you can measure the temp of the fluid going out.

In regard to the boost guage, again I am not aware of any threaded port on the factory equipment. In my case the aftermarket HighRam intake elbow had a threaded port for the purpose. You may need to drill and tap a Hole in your aluminum intake elbow. This is easy to do but I would remove it first so as not to get drillings in the intake.

For me the toughest part was routing the wiring to the guages on the pillar.

The tranny temp needs to go in to a hole that you need to drill into the pan. I had a bushing brazed on to stregthen the hole after you tap and thread in the fitting.

The boost fitting goes in to the left side of the head just behind the lift pump. There is a plug there that needs to be removed first. You'll have to get a reduced fitting to make that work. Some kits come with that.
PM me if you want me to send pics. I know somewhere theres a picture of this on the net.

Sorry,
I told you wrong on the boost. Heres what you need to do:

The boost pressure port is a 3/4" inch pipe plug requiring a 1/2" square drive ratchet extension for removal and is located on the side of the intake plenum rearward of the fuel filter bracket.

You will need a 3/4 X 1/8" bushing from any plumbing shop. Some places only carry 3/4 X 1/4, in that case buy one along with a 1/4x1/8" bushing. In fact your boost gauge may have come with the 1/4x1/8".

Or, you can use the Dodge replacement line with the fitting for the sending unit to put the sender in the HOT line heading for the trans cooler, and drill & tap the Intake Horn for the boost fitting.

I still can't figure out wherre the fitting is for the boost gauge. I must be blind as a bat. I have the adapter for the 3/4 to 1/8" fitting with the Di Pricol kit.

Now as for the tranny sending gauge, it looks like I will be getting the HyTec pan (it is probably good for the tranny anyway). Whereis the best place to get one of those for the best pricee? Should I be getting a deeper pan for this truck?

Check out the photo from shovelhead. That is what I was talking about regarding the boost fitting.

or go to www.piersdiesel.com and pick up one of the boost fittings. replaces one of the intake bolts with a hollow bolt and is threaded for the fitting that came with your gauge. no drilling, no tapping, no gymnastics to get behind the filter housing!

Nope, its hidden very well. Look for the 1/2" square hole in the plug; right behind the fuel filter, just in front of the firewall. Took me a few times before I finally located it. Now the tough part will be getting in there and removing the plug!

That's nice if you got the 3/4"-1/8" adapter, those are hard to find. Are you really sure that's what they gave you? NPT threads are bigger than they're callouts (I don't know what part of an 1/8" NPT thread is really 1/8" . ). My boost gauge install kit came with 1/4"-1/8" adapter, and I found a 3/4"-1/4" which is pretty common. It will be pretty evident once you find the plug on the intake manifold.

If this works, look under the number "4" that is the plug that you need to remove to put your boost fitting into.

As for the tranny temp-do NOT get your temp from the pan-it is a false low reading. Get your temperature fromthe "hot" line. On the 47 series tranny it is the one to the front of the transmission.
