I am in need of new tires and have decided on the 305/70/16 E tire and load range specs.

Here are the tires I've narrowed it down to:

Nitto Durra Grappler

Nitto Terra Grappler

Firestone Destination AT

I have had the Terra Grapplers and thought they were ok and wore well, but did have some float and noise on the road. Especially later in the life of the tire.

I have Toyo MT's now and have about 38k on them and they are about shot, which is probably due to old shocks. In the end they are too loud for my getting older ears. They do look good though!

Any opinions are welcomed.

I ran BFG 315 H2 and even w/load range D they performed well for 50k+ miles. Sears was having an unbelievable sale and I recently ended up w/35" General Red letter m/t E load range tires. 10kmiles and so far so good.

I switched from Toyo MTs as they do not last but 20k
To Toyo M 55 in 275/70/R18 so far very impressed.
But they make alittle noise so probably not an option

No one has thoughts on Dura Grappler vs Firestone Destination AT?

I am leaning towards the Dura Grappler. UTQG Rating of 600. Not bad for such a large tire, the Terra Grappler has a 500 rating.

Just to throw something out there........

I just replaced my Goodyear Duratracs recently with the old ones traveling just shy of 130,000 kms, close to 81,000 miles. I would have gone a little longer but winter was coming quick.

All highway driving, reasonably quiet until they get down on tread, but still not really noisy. It didn't take long to get the pressures adjusted to get them to wear flat, 55L/54R front and 50L/50R rear, when towing rears went to 65.

I towed a lot of those miles, cargo, flatdeck and horse trailers and they just flat out are a nice tire.

I rotated them twice, every 50,000 kms (yes I know it should have been more often) and had one flat the whole time they were on the truck.

Replaced them with the same, 285/75R16's so we will see how long I go with these. In fact, I just picked up a 93 Cummins and it is going to get a set of 235/85R16's mounted on it shortly.

Don't know if it's what your looking for but a ton of trucks in my area run them and get crazy mileage out of them.

I put some 285 75 17 duragrapplers on my '06 megacab. Very good tire. Quiet, well balanced, and better than expected in 4wd. Sold the truck with 25,000 on the tires and their tread was still very good, maybe 40-50% left. I'm going to be putting 235 85 16 Duragrappler on my "new" '96 3500 when it needs tires.

Have same tires and second everything written.

I switched from M-55s to Toyo H/T. Much quieter and gained 1-2 mpg.
After 40k miles they appear they will last at least as long as the M-55s that went 90k.

FWIW, a lot of people in Texas who drive off road go with Cooper AT's. For the money, Pep Boys AT is made by Cooper and you usually can noy find a better price for 4 tires anywhere. They wear well too.
