tire size on '99 4X4

I have a 1999 Ram Quad Cab 4X4 Cummins 2500, 3.54 gears. I bought it used just a couple months ago, it has 265/75/16 tires on it now on the stock rims. I was just wondering how much larger I can go on the stock wheels without any lift. How big have people gone and what were the troubles?

I do not tow anything very heavy, so the smaller size tire for towing is not a big concern, I also would like a somewhat aggressive all-terrain type tread. I drive more on pavement, but want the ability to not get struck as easily as street tires do.

I know I can go to 285/75/16's without a problem, anybody go bigger? I DO NOT want the tire to rub anything at all, also,, I do not want a tire that is too wide for the stock rim to not be inflated all the way.

One last thing, how was handleing with the larger tires? Does that taller sidewall make the ride that much less stable while cornering or at highway speeds?

4wheel parts has a deal right now....3 get 4th free on procomps...I love them...305-70-16 would work good for you. they have All terrains and mud terrains both a real quiet tire last long time....Had them on my Powerstroke Excursion for 50K b4 i sold the truck and still had 35% life left.

I had thought about a leveling kit, they are cheap enough.. The truck sits high enough for me as it is though, any higher and it would become a pain to toss stuff into the bed,, But if I remember right, those leveling kits are for the front only?? A spacer over the front springs?

About those 305's,, did you run those on a dodge? any rubbing at all??

How about air pressure with these wider tires on skinny stock rims? I have had the problem before of running larger tires that would "bulge" in the center of the tread, because they really needed a wider wheel, if I aired them up all the way,, so I would ride around with 24 psi or so. This was on a lifted Dakota which is a much lighter truck than a 2500 ram. I dont want to do that on this heavy of a truck.

Thanks for the help,, Im new to the diesel truck stuff,, am just trying to get all the info I can before spending my $$

I agree

Levelin kit, and with those rims you have at the most a 305.. 315s look just a lil too big, and they are too wide for the rim as well... Good luck... u cant go wrong with BFG at's but of coarse i want a set of pro comps next.. X terrains maybe... Plus i think that the 315's might be a bit much for 3.54 gearing...

Tx

I had the Truxxus Radials in the 33 inch size under my stock truck, they are a load range E and ride nice. Couldn't hear them over the truck, but don't expect alot of mileage out of a tire that aggresive. These were shot after 15000, but they are also cheaper than alot of other tires. I am thinking about going back to them in the 35 inch size with a leveling kit next. They are made for rock crawlers so the side walls couldn't get any stiffer and that makes the ride more stable.

If you're looking for tire height, check out a 255/85r/16. BFG makes the Mud Terrains and they'll fit the rims WITHIN THE MANUFACTURERS SPECS! Mine don't and I have to vary the pressure for different loads to keep the tread flat and wearing properly. I've got 30k on my mudders, so rotation and pressure checking can go a long way towards tire life.
