Tire options- Good, Bad & Ugly
 

So I've began the search for a new set of tires, not factory size but 315/17. Searched on here but not much info found. The H2 BFG KO set have lasted about 60k miles and not a single flat, blowout or issue with them so I'm leaning towards getting another set of them but am liking the price found on the Falken wild peak. Tell me the good, bad and ugly stories you have experienced with your aftermarket tires......Happy Easter!

I dont have any experience of the Falkens on a heavy pickup truck. But what I can say for the Falken tires is they wear FAST. My mom had a set of the Falkens on her 03 Ford Taurus and they only lasted about a year, and 20,000 miles. I even rotated them every 5,000 miles for her. They did wear evenly but FAST.
Personally after seeing that Id stay away from them...

Only advice I can give is that, after having run large tires on my 96s for years, I have begun to switch back to smaller tires, closer in height to OEM. And glad I did for the handling and less front-end maintenance.

These trucks still have plenty of ground clearance for my needs with less tall tires and I'm in pretty rough country alot. I went through the phase of bigger is better.... glad to be downsizing. And, no, I never got better mileage with taller tires and they didn't provide any noticeable more help in mud or snow. Just my $.02.

I just finished lowering the truck from 6" to 3" and installed carli suspension. I appreciate the comments but need to stay w/a 35" tire as anything smaller will look odd.

We had Falken's A/T style tires on an 01 F-350 4X4. They seemed to ride nicely and were quiet.

I have a set of Dean M/T's on my truck now, since2009 and they have worn well and held up nicely, but a little growly on the highway.

Nothing compares to my Michelin hiway ribs, though. Stockers of an 04 I use in the summer.

The BFG's and Goodyears seem to be traction first/wear second in my experience. Usually looking really nice, but wearing out too fast.

General makes a nice A/T with a closer tread pattern that should wear well. I used to run them on my F-150 prerunner with good results, but the 15" ers were a lot cheaper than 16 0r 17's back then...

Just put on a set of Cooper ATP's from Discount Tire for $160 each. 55K warranty and made in the USA. I've got 47 miles on them and they are wearing well!

BFG A/T's have soft sidewalls, and can contribute to deathwobble on a vehicle with a solid front axle.

I've been really happy with my Yokohama Geolandar AT's, and would get another set if I didn't need additional load capacity (we're getting a much larger toy hauler). So my next tires will be Toyo MT's.

I sold my Toyo MT's to a friend only because I couldn't handle the noise anymore. Aside from mild noise and decreased fuel economy they were great. I replaced them with the new Toyo AT2's and am stoked. Lie-o-meter's showing 1mpg+ and they are quiet.
A 50 psi D rated tire won't go on my truck after having a near catastrophic blowout with a D-rated 65 psi Bridgestone AT on my '98.5. Lots of flats in Baja with that tire too. My MT's and now the AT2's required 1.50 ozs max to balance on a 285-75-17 size. My one and only experience with BFG's was on that '98.5 also. Balance took 3.5 oz- to a whopping 10oz. They would" zero" out so Discount refused to exchange them.

Had great luck with BFG TA KO's on my wife's truck. This year makes it #5 and its time to replace them. I'm interested in this as well since they are "D" rated and worked well but we don't tow with her truck so I could get away with them.

I've seen the Falken but want to stick with something like the tread pattern on the BFG's. My wife loves them for winter use in the snow, and if that's what makes her happy ......

Only experience on the Dodges has been BFG A/T and Cooper St's.

Both were E rated, hated the BFG's, wore way too fast. Love the Cooper ST's, not terribly noisy and great traction, good wear so far.

All have been 235/85/16's

I'm a Toyo fan.
Ran M-55s for a while but they were too noisy and more aggressive than I needed. Still got over 90k miles out of them though.
Switched to Toyo H/T and love them. Quiet, all the traction I need siped on ice and snow. Even gained 1.5 mpg with them.
Have 60k on one set now, looks like they'll easily make 100k miles.

I have the stock 16x8" rims.

Pro Comp A/T 305/70/16 Best I've had. Great ride and traction both on and off road. They wore even down to the markers.

Nitto Terra Grappler 295/75/16 Truck wandered when they were new but after 5K miles they got better. So far they are wearing even, quiet on the street. good off road.

I'll be going back to the Pro Comps when the Nitto's are done.
