I can't help much here but.....

Get a HO version, you will have more power than a California version. California did not sell the HO version.

Pretty sure the California ones were just non HO.

Couldn't get the HO in Happy Valley due to emissions.

Unless the EGR lowered the rating?

I though the 6speed only came on the HO's in 2000?

HO's are only in the 6 spd manual....autos from 98-03 are not HO's....also the 5 spd manual is not an HO....

the first year that the 6 spds came out, 2000, the trucks were non HO. 2001 was the first year for the HO.

Look on the injector pump, they are rated at 245 HP and the standard( non CALI) is 235.

I know I have one in Kulifornia

The six speed actually came out in 1999, i know this because my dad waited 6 months to get one, and it was one of only 6 delivered to CA, it was the standard output version, but in california you could get the HO version around 2001 or 2002, my buddy bought one brand new, i think the high output that you couldnt get was the 305/555, but now you can get the 600 in every state, finally dodge got their act together

Am getting ready to make the big move to California. I bought my HO six speed here in Texas. Am I going to have any problem with registration out there when I move? Do they inspect the emmissions?

pop,

you're good to go. As long as the truck has 7500 miles on it you can register in CA. No they don't currently have any emissions testing (at least in my county). Smoke police have cited a few with huge injectors, but that's all. DMV never even asked me to start mine when I registered it last summer.

If 8th digit of VIN is a 6, it's an SO. If 8th digit is a 7, it's an HO.

The 6spd first came out in 1999, only 1500 6spd trucks were built.
The 2000 model year trucks also had the 6spd available, but availability of ordering one was always on and off again. I bought one. They were still non HO 235hp motors, and the clutch is the same as a 5spd 12-1/4" dia and same 1-1/4" input shaft .

2001 the HO came out. The clutch dia was increased to 13" and the input shaft was also increased to 1-3/8".

You do not necessarily get more power out of an HO vs a non HO. 10hp is nothing to write home about, and if you add aftermarket injectors/boxes you end up with the same in the end.

The power ratings between your TX truck and a CA truck won't be any different...there's only a slight different calibration in the ECM.
