Tapping the wire - QUESTIONS
I own the truck in sig , and currently have an Edge EZ.
I know the Edge Comp and the Edge J/A both tap or pierce the "pump wire". I'd like more power, so I am considering either these or RV275 injectors to go with my EZ. The cost would be about the same. I have EGT and Trans gauges, and a low FP warning light. FP is good.
Since I just shelled out mucho denaro for a new VP44, and I also have a new in-tank LP, I don't want to buy a new VP44 anytime soon (my rear end is still sore if you know what I mean) .
Onto my questions:
1) What exactly does tapping into "the wire" do? I know you get more power/more fuel, but how?
2) Does tapping that wire negatively effect the life of the VP44? (burn it out sooner)
If there's any hint that it will burn out the VP44 sooner, I'll stay with what I have.

I my poor understanding, tapping the wire lets the High Perf. module control the length of squirt of the VP.
Less time bypassed/more time in squirt. The solenoid doing this bypass & squirt is electrical, is subject to heat trouble and is being called on to be more busy which will let it heat up more than in stock operation. Summer heat can amplify this trouble in my opinion.
An alternative is your EZ, some high performance injectors and upgrading your turbo for a very nice power improvement. Mine is currently untapped but power is still very much improved over stock.

if your pump wire is tapped, you just gave up your warranty. the VP you just replaced should have a warranty, if you do anything to jeopardize its life then you become your own warranty station. it could die without the wire tapped just as fast as with the wire tapped, but atleast if you dont have the wire tapped the warranty is still valid.....provided they dont know or get upset about your EZ!!
injectors are nice but they are always 'on' as opposed to a Comp or Juice modules. just somethign to remember.
if youre in limbo, id go with injectors...

there is a reason pump shops don't warranty a pump with it's wire tapped. that should be indication right there. granted there are people that tap the wire and flog the truck for 200k, others 10k. its really hit or miss either way. the vp will die, its just a matter of when, and tapping MAY bring it sooner than later.

Injectors add cooler power than wire tap boxes and can get you above 500 hp if thats what you're looking for. Some people report mileage gains with the rv injectors, I'd give them a try.

I also would run injectors/ turbo before going to something that taps the wire. I have run into problems with the Edge products but the EZ is something that seems to always reliable and if I had it I wouldn't want to give it up especially if I had the choice to go another road and keep the EZ.

Ok, thanks for that guys. Any experts out there tell me what tapping the wire does to the pump exactly?
Sounds like injectors is the way to go.
