taping VS not taping (edge juice/w attitude)

ok ive read all day about the various chips and box's and come to the conclusion that the juice with attitude seems to be the best value due to the included gauge/TT feature.

now ive heard the whole argument about "tapping the pump made it go out sooner vs if i had not". maybe i have missed it having read through so many threads, but here is my question.

what differences will you see in tapped versus untapped? do you not gain the full effect of the box?

thanks!

Untapped you will only see about 65 hp increase.

Ther's really no point in getting the juiceif you aren't going to tap it. Would be better off getting a cheaper box non adjustable box.

I too wasn't going to tap my wire, till I drove it. Settings 1-5 all felt the same and only had a mild perforance increase.

Tap the wire, intsall a good LP system and hope for the best.

Actually, wouldn't an untapped Juice equal an EZ, plus the digital guages? See for me, that's the point of the Juice, to get the guages!

Yes it would. And if you want a little power bump and the digital gauges it would be a nice setup.

thanks for all the responses. 65 isnt bad for the minute. to be honest id rather get in a newer VP44 before i tap. untill then having a little more kick and gauges (the main selling point to me) might just be the trick. i really cant afford to shell out $1200 if i fry this, and the truck is my main mode of transport. before i do this i know ill upgrade to a big line kit and probably a holley blue used as a P-Pump

the smarty seems nice and maybe ill get one a little later and stack them, but i like the ability to change on the fly and monitor things.

another question about the J W/A, does it include all the necessary sensors to monitor everything it says it does? egt probe? fuel pressure sensor?

ill be updating my sig right after i submit this

Yep all the needed sensors are included, EGT, Tranny, Fuel, the rest is read thru the ECM. I think it took me about 2 hours to put mine in, quite easy. Pickup up 1/8" pipe tap and appropiate drill bit, you'll need it to install the EGT probe.

I may have been overly critical about the Juice untapped. When i bought my truck it had an older Van Aaken box on it. With the Juice untapped I noticed no power increase and I was told the Van Aaken box was good about 30 or 40HP.

How does the Juice increase power if its not tapped? Just increased boost?

Speaking of boost, just cause you aren't tapping the wire doesn't mean you cann't turnbuckle the wastegate for added boost.......

Timing and some fueling increases. It takes more fuel to make more boost. Can't just turn it up. 65 hp is the max you can get out of a VP without tapping the wire.

I believe the J/A comes with a boost elbow to keep the wastgate shut, or you can turnbuckle it...

so can you turnbuckle a pretty much stock truck? or is it only to be used in conjunction with a fuel/timing box?

sorry for the newb questions. i am searching alot, its just diesels are a WHOLE new area for me. gassers i have down, motorcycles i have down. diesels are so different.

You could turnbuckle a stock truck, but you wouldn't realy get any more boost, because you would not be able to inject more fuel, the computer would see more boost, and defuel.

Diesels are really pretty simple,
fuel=boost
fuel=power
therfore,
fuel=

I realize that is an over simplification, but that is the very basic idea.

No problem, I learned what I know by asking and reading here. If you can't figure something out, feel free to ask. If you don't wanna post for whatever reason, you can always shoot a PM.

yeah ive seen this place is a wealth of info. im not at all new to forums and reading up on things. there are a few questions i have maybe to get the general understanding of things. i may shoot a few pm's here and there. for the most part i do think i can find most of it.

i will admit it IS a bit harder to grasp some things just because of all the different lingo, abbreviations, and CTD specific phrases. but ill get there soon enough!

thanks again all!
